The reason for the south seceding was because of the threat of abolishing slavery. Lincoln was seen as sympathetic to the abolishonist movement. But to judge people of that time against evolved standards of today is like holding your child accountable today at16 for kicking the cat when he was 5. He grew up and knows better now and sees clearly what was wrong about hurting the cat. Also there was so much of the southern economy wrapped up in slavery and the agricultural lifestyle that abolishing slavery would have crippled the south. It would be no different today if the environmentalists wanted to completely abolish fossil fuels with a stroke of the pen. The economy would be crippled even if stopping the burning of fossil fuels was good for the environment the economic damage would be so great that even opponents of fossil fuel use would have to defend it. I think it was Jefferson ( a slave owner) who said " slavery is like holding a badger by the tail, you don't like it but you don't dare let it go".

 

You like to debate and reference things that don't pertain to the issue. What does the police have to do with the federal government? Trash? etc. etc. These are all linked to local taxes. Again what does the federal government provide? They really should only provide a national defense which only exists in our nation. We stay out of foreign lands and protect our own people. We don't have bases in every country and spend billions on defense. We should just have an isolationist view and defend our coutnry from threats at home.

Besides that what else should the fed govt do? My state taxes and local taxes provide me with things. I pay the most to the fed government and they don't give me ****.

You can't just link yourself to the a political party. They all are for the wealthy and the all the leaders usually have wealth. What is the difference between the parties and how has each political party helped the middle class. I'm getting old Riley and I can't tell the difference anymore. I am certain that each state could manage their own schools, police departments etc. If you don't think the federal gov't is to big, including all of the government programs to "help" the poor then you are looking through a distorted lens. We should just be one big state right? Because what is good for Chicago must be good for Little Rock right?

 

Yes, it was mainly economic. Sounds like people who have Mexicans working for them today. Landscape company owners, contruction companies, etc. are basically slave drivers today but they are actually hurting the economy because the majority of illegals collect government subsidies (section 8 housing, welfare, food stamps) by using birthright citizenship from their anchor babies. These illegals are not citizens. Poor people who are citizens should be the only ones receiving subsidies provided they pass a drug test.

Now, we have these politicans who want to set these illegals free by granting amnesty. It doesn't work like that. Slaves were brought here against their will. The illegals broke the law and came on their own free will.

 

The fed gives money to the states, geniuses, for POLICE and sh!t. States get Fed moneys for all sorts of things...roads, infrastructure, etc. Happens everyday.

Yeah your paltry state taxes provide all the wonderful services you all take for granted.

Actually most of the world's, well first world, children know that animal abuse isn't really cool. Those kids doing that stuff tend to end-up pretty bad.

 

yea...maybe not the best example but I was talking in retrospect. If we both quit and look back on it and agree that it was some f'd up stuff we were doing was the point. If you took one more hit than me (I assume I quit first really does not matter (unless it killed you, jailed you etc...all those factors aside....just the one more hit is all).

Your argument on the fed funds flowing in to states is not valid...just saying. You can look at the ACA for some perspective there. Why did some states "buy in" and some did not? Has it to do with State Legislatures leaning one way or the other?

Slavery/Racism is certainly a maturing issue...not sure what your missing there.

Anyway. Not here to fling sh$2 but just to have a discussion on the issue.

Either way...this issue in at the heart of some of the biggest problems facing our country period.

 

People like the federal govt when they received handouts and can't support themselves. do you really think it's fair to collect welfare if you are using drugs and not trying to get a job? Do you think it's fair that they should get free cell phones and computers when using drugs and not trying to get a job? Do you think they should get a $2,000/month apart paid for by section 8 housing while others scrape by to pay for an apartment because they have pride in themselves and want to work?

I do have an adopted black brother. He didn't do his homework and blamed it on the white man. Then, he didn't go to college and blamed it on the white man. Now, he uses drugs and blames it on the white man. Now, he sits on a couch, gets high and plays xbox. He collects welfare, has free housing and has extra money around to buy drugs. Ain't merica great! We went to the same school but he said the white man built that school and didn't want him to graduate.

Best plan ever. Let's all quit jobs, give them to illegals, and let the government pay for our housing, foods and all other bills. Sounds like a deal.

 

One tip. Don't believe anything the government tells you, nothing, nothing and don't trust people who have lived their whole life on government subsidies.

People are racist not due to maturity but rather an attitude people have to hate and fear anything different. If anything racism is "learned" from parents and other associates at an early age.

3 year-olds aren't racists, guys. They "learn" that **** which completely contradicts this "maturity" thang. People get racist as they age, if they are headed that way...due to PARENTS and their immediate environment.

LMAO! You get fired up on this stuff. People always make excuses. I never made excuses and I'm sure I had it worse than you. I'm not going to talk about my past and how I grew up, but I don't have the sympathy for people who don't try to better themselves. As you say, there are some examples where it isn't the kids fault and social injustices but you know there are a lot of people who take advantage and there are people who don't make excuses and work hard. It just gets hard when you worked 70 hours a week and also went to night school to get a degree. Then, all the taxes that you pay (many are exempt to pay taxes) reduce your income to the point that you are almost at the level of the poor anyway. Do you believe in socialism and everyone should get the same pay regardless of how much time they work, just curious?

Also, why should my taxes go to help these people espeically if they aren't trying to better themselves? It's stolen from me and given to someone else. This is charity and should be voluntary. Can I steal your bag of weed and you would be fine with it or are you better with voluntarily giving me a drag?

 

That's right. The thought process is hard to change but I see more racists from Camden and Newark because they see it on a daily basis. The problem is they are the minority in the schools and take the ****. Since the people are black that fight them and start trouble, they associate their hate with that color. The sames goes with a few black students in white schools. In either situation, you get tough fast and learn how to fight. Most of the time you are fighting against a group. Then, the anger gets the best of you, someone gets really hurt and you are in the pen. All in the life of a white kid in a black ghetto.

 

Liam, like Riley said, not everyone is as great as you are.

You ever work with these kids that literally don't have a chance? 16 year olds who are on a less than first grade reading level. First grade kids who have more anger than 27 angst-ridden goths of the suburbs, before the kid even knows what anger is? A lot of these kids do not have a snowball's chance in hell. Some of you focks need to get that through your heads. And this ****'s been going on for generations.

Everybody thinks they have have this sh!t figured out, and the funny thing is, no one does. There is no answer, and all this sh!t was set in place hundreds of years ago when the greatest geo-political experiement that is our country began.
