Not forced, haha - I'm going to visit a school in Laguna I'm applying to so why not make a mini surf trip out of it. Also hoping to catch some of the Hurley Pro at Trestles

This is true, I've only flown a few times and have never traveled with a surfboard so I'm totally lost.

The largest board I would bring like 5'9 so I'm not even sure what bag to get to overstuff and protect it. I'm not afraid it getting a little dinged up (won't be traveling with a new board thats for sure) but I'd hate to get out there and it's totally busted..

I would probably get detained and treated like a terrorist for going ape sh*t on them if something happened to my board. I have flown to Rincon PR with my 6'4" Coil a couple of times with Jet Blue and she doesn't have a scratch on her and they only charge $50 each way. I recommend Jet Blue to everybody.

I know part of it not getting messed up is the quality / durability of the board itself, but I also wrap the rails in that foam plumbing tubing, it's already got the slit down the middle so you just wrap that stuff around the rails and then put a long piece of it down the center of the board, then wrap it up in a big sheet with tape wrapping around it all to hold it all together. I cut out smaller pieces of the foam to fit in swallow tail and tape it all together too. After wrapping it up nice and tight, I then put it in my FCS travel bag. Hasn't failed me so-far.
