I returned to Mass after a 17 year hiatus that included St Aug, Seaside NJ and the PacNW. The rainstorm on 7 Aug brought us waves through today, Sunday- but has also brought a nasty upwelling. I almost needed boots, which tells me the water was mid to low fifties. I don't remember upwellings being this bad in the 1990's, did you guys see the same?
A couple days of offshore winds will do it. Although as soon as the wind flips onshore the surface water temps will go up 10 degrees.
Delmarva had some decent upwelling in spots this past week...I heard from a friend that Nags Head did as well.
I was in Nags Head last Wed-Sat and it was crazy how cold the water was. I'm thinking upper 50s at times. Totally unprepared. Never would have expected to need full suits on the Outer Banks in mid August.
