I was considering creating an option to view the wave forecast maps without the wind barbs included. My question is do you like viewing the waves and wind all together or separately? Personally, I think its best to look at waves and wind together, but was just looking to see what other users thought? Thanks,
Together. The wind is just as important as the swell most of the time. Plus I can predict/hope for those small sneaker wind swells in the summer if I can see the wind fetch/direction over a large area.
Absolutely together. If they were separate, we would have to go back and forth between sets of maps trying to keep track mentally of dates and times, etc. My poor little brain! ....unless there is some technical reason for separating them. Actually that reminds me of a question for this wonderfull free site: I have noticed that sometimes the winds on the wave height/wind maps don't necessarily match up with the maps showing wind alone. Is that because they are based on different weather models?
sweet, thanks for the feedback. No other surf sites, put them together, and i never understood why.... It does make the image a little more cluttered, but you get such a better idea of what is going on by putting them together. ewwoodsurf, the nearshore winds are using the higher resolution NAM model winds (the ones up there now go out to 84 hours, but the latest/greatest NAM release only goes to 60 hours - coming soon), and the wave maps use the GFS winds, which is what drives the wave model. I have on the project list to also create just purely wind maps based on GFS, so you can see the difference between GFS and NAM. Both models have their own biases, but the NAM should be best for most situations for coastal winds. GFS will have a hard time with land/sea breezes.
