Every fight I was ever in I won, every fight I was ever in I hated. From the first punch to the torn up and throbbing knuckles fighting sucks whether your in the right or not. Sometimes it's nessesary sometimes not, this was not.

Interesting post.... Gotta say as a fairly new guy to surfing, I try and follow the simple unwritten rules in the water. I also only surf in areas that is family and newbie friendly for no other reason other than the fact that respect is big in any sport or activity. Im not good enough to go to some places and when I am good enough I certainly will give the respect to the people who have been surfing that break a lot longer than me... I don't take any **** either as respect is a two way street, but usually I find if you make a mistake and apologize for it most of the time people are pretty cool about it unless you have absolutely no business being there.

I am an avid skier and ski all over the world. Two years ago I was backcountry skiing in Utah in a place that is waaay off the grid... There was a couple of yahoos there from New York who thought it would be fun to try and ski this area.. 15 yards down they wiped and lost their skis in 8 ft of snow. Started screaming for me and a couple of my buddies to help them find their skis.. lol... monkey crawl and slide down the bowl to the bottom and hike your way out was the only advice I could give them. They say to call ski patrol LOL.. When you ski out west and you go to the back bowls there IS NOT SKI PATROL!! Said I would contact the Park rangers in the area once I got back and told them to just sit tight.... they were so pissed but goes to show the mentality of some people and their limits....

I am from Mass and am very aware of how people from Maine feel about us massholes, BUT gotta say there are plenty of arse holes everywhere including Maine as well Once had a run in with a guy from maine at a restaurant with a dock on it. My kids who were 9 at the time went onto the dock not realizing that it was a private dock for the boat owners only. This burly looking guy started screaming at my kids and when I went out to talk to him to apologize he started swearing and yelling at me and talking about us massholes and lack of respect etc... he pissed me off not because of me but because of how he was acting in front of my kids... He then told me he had a gun in which I responded by smashing him in the face twice and landing him in the water... They called the police and I had to deal with that which took about 2 hours of my time away from a great day..... just the way it is......;

Seems like this guy was being a **** but in the world we live in. ****s have rights legally too.. unfortunately...

generally if your fighting in the lineup, your probably not a very good surfer.

 

focus your time and efforts on surfing in the winter...i've never seen any altercations here, but especially not in winter...

simply put, surfing in the summer is for kooks (especially if you are an avid surfer, and especially if you get all jacked up on a caine swell) if you surf in the summer, no matter how good or bad you are, you're a kook - behave accordingly. if you're a winter surfer that surfs in the summer, then you're just a kook with experience....live by that and no one will get bruised fighting over 2-3 foot mush
