So, the city is making money from the people parking in your hood. The current resident now has to get parking passes to park in his/her own hood. The parking fee just went from $25 a year, to $240.00 ($20 a month). sucks

damn right man. I live on 20th St. and we're not even allowed to have parking permits. The city took our street off the map allowed to have it and gave it to the construction workers redoing the streets. That is BS

The fee isn't for the Tourons, they already have a place to park. It's a way to fugg the little guy.

They're fighting light rail hard. Look how much money Norfolk tax payers put out for a way for the Med Students and yuppy scum to get down town from VB city line. I take it and paid the 1st 2 times. after that no one asked. Before big Norfolk events, there's a warning sign saying that cops will check for passes.

A train pass also entitles us to take a paddleboat ride to Portsmouth.

Like many locals, I tend to avoid the Oceanfront area during tourist season.

That's cheap. It's $40 a day here ($1,200 a month if you go everyday). Yearly pass available to beach residents only.

Come on guys, think of the poor mayor, he's got to pay for his mcmansion somehow.

In WB passes are only available to residents. If you work at one of the hotels/restaurants on the island you have to pay $2.50 and hour to go to work. Taxing the hell of of the folks that float the economy in the off season. At this point I only go to WB when the surf is good at dawn. Even in the winter it's a ****te show police state.

In the summer I go to TI or KB. Worth the drive.

Parking situation in VB has been gradually coming to a head.

First it was the free parking at rudee's. Gone.

then, the metered spots went up in price so hard they had to install credit card readers... I guess nobody rides around with $13 in quarters anymore, sheesh.

My serious prediction: They will meter or "permit only" the north end streets, croatan neighborhood, and possibly sandbridge. The millionaires are getting sick of seeing our balls. Next, just like our neighbors to the north, NJ, they will require an annual beach badge to step on the sand. Let's combine all of that with the leash laws, surfing restrictions, non-surfing zones, kiddies on the inside, etc etc. Hard to get stoked in vb these days.

^doing nothing probably isn't the answer DP, look at all the cities south of Ft. Pierce. If it's not privatized it's metered - sux

Parking meters are a function of herd mentality. Everyone goes to the beach, so that is where the meters will be placed. Mo' money.
Only real solution (other than years of civil disobedience), is to find an activity in an area where the herds do not go.
Other than that, pay the bill, and STFU?

Moving is doing something Grain, by taking your tax dollars elsewhere you are hurting them where it hurts, their pockets. If you and everybody else in the area get sick of it and pick up and leave, they won't have to worry about parking meters, because nobody will be there to pay up. Just a thought. BTW, I've never been down that way in FL, I stay in CFL where parking is free, unless I hit the pier, and that only cost me a couple bucks for the entire session, and that's only if I get there late. If I get there early it's free. No parking issues here, I feel for you youse guys though.

Yeah, it's not like there's been any waves when the old can get to them.
