I was checking out this past issue and there was an article in there about some VB history. They insinuated (How I read it anyway) that "The Smith and Holland" surf shop was the first on the East Coast.

Anybody see that? What do you guys think...true or not?

I think WRV was late 60's early 70's and Whalebone too. Any Northeast or FL claims?

There were small surfshops here in New England mid sixties. Very small shops, but shops nonetheless.
Do I care?? No. But for the sake of "historical accuracy', sounds as if Brian Williams may have written the article??

Pete Schmitts "rip you off" Surfshop was before WRV.

Surfing has a lot of nostalgia from Waikiki to VB and beyond. I recently re-read the Surfline article on Some of the East Coast's shaping/shapers history which I thought was cool. Claiming the first shop of it's kind on the East Coast is interesting to me. I was curious to see if it interested other East Coast Surfers. It apparently does not interest you but thanks for sharing.
