Happy Veterans Day. USN Photographer\'s Mate 2nd Class. Served on USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), and at CombatCamera. Best 7 yrs of my life.
rah, leaving for parris island in a couple weeks. hoping to get stationed out in Pendleton... surf trestles every weekend!
In the Army Reserves currently (Specialist). Wish I had joined the Navy though cause the army def doesn't get stationed near any water.
Hawaii You dont need to be in the navy to get a great location to surf. I was stationed at Schofield Barracks HI for 4 years surfing north shore and loved it. -Army Vet 5 years service SGT
Yeah that is true. Though the chance of getting Schofield are slim and the chances would have been better of being stuck in Ft. Lwood or Sill about a thousand miles away from the ocean. That is pretty sweet though that you were there I have some friends who are there now and love it. What was your mos? Thanks for your service too! Good luck Redeacarr!!!!

My field, Topography had/ has a unit in Hawaii- I never had the luck to get stationed there. Right at the end of my career my unit found a reason for me to go TDY. 2 weeks in the Hali Koa in December. Watched the Pipeline Masters, surfed a little at Barber's Point.
Thank you all for your service past and present. US Air Force Retired MSgt. 21 years serving 13 years retired.
Former Navy stationed on a ship in Hawaii and shore duty in California. Managed to surf all the HI islands, everywhere in Cali from Laguna south, Baja Mexico, Guam, the Philippines, and Japan while active duty. Had my 6'4" board strapped to the pipes hanging over my bunk. If I were to do it all again, I would have joined the Coast Guard, they have better duty stations and less time at sea. Only down side would be their uniforms look gay.
l never had the stones to join but i thank each and every one of ya from the bottom of my heart. seriously.
The US Coast Guard has been gracious enough to afford me a stint in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and kept me close to waves for 13 years, now. Happy Veteran's day to all of you who have and still are serving your country.
I was a week from my meps physical for the coast guard but got offered a DoD job for the Navy in VB and decided to take it. I appreciate all who serve. I should have joined straight out of high school haha.
Wow That is pretty awesome though being on ship I have heard is draining. I was at Fort Eustis and got to know a lot of sailors, corpsman mainly, and though there job is tough they all were really cool guys. WesB and Topo thanks again for your service. @ Topo No I am a medic and I know that there is a chance of getting sent to HI but it seems that the army rarely gives you your first choice and more often then not seems to send you exactly were you don't want to go. I remember that the only person who got Scholfield from my ait was also the only person who hated the beach and couldn't swim. That is really cool that you got to Tdy to HI. I hope that I get a chance at some point.
I think about joining the usaf or navy every day. I really commend all of you who give your time/life to protect us. Thank you!
While the Navy's gotten worse. What's with this blue cammy baloney, who they trying to hide from, the whales? Showing my age, but seeing a line of sailors man the rail in cracker jacks still gives me goose bumps. My hat's off to all those who serve in the Army, Marines and SEALs. Those are the guys (and gals) with real cajones.
I thought the same exact thing 30 years ago - but the needs of the gov't caused me to spend most of my time in Bridgeport, CA (outside of Reno) Camp Dawson (West Virginia) and Norway. Its all good though!
Isn't Bridgeport the Marine Corp. cold weather training ground? I was stationed at a surfers dream, K Bay Hawaii, but did not surf when I got there. Eventually rented a board the size of a canoe in Waikiki and stood up for the first time. And I've been hooked ever since.
