Holy Sh**. While I don't agree with half the stuff Bill Maher ever says, I love his HBO show. I recently heard about the show he has been producing called "VICE". Its on demand for free if you have HBO....

So, I have been watching some episodes of it the past few days. SICK show.... you guys MUST watch the following two episodes if you have access, because they directly relate to surfing...

The BP Oil spill follow up. I was freaking floored when I read it. Reminded me of all the BS threads on here about how it's no big deal, and these oild rigs off the coast are no big deal... I literally was in disbelief as the showed all these children with terrible rashes from the CORREXIT that BP used. How they flew out secretly every night, dumping hundreds of millions of gallons into the gulf. How there is still oil all over the marshes down there and how there are just TONS of oil sitting on the sea floor. They showed the fly overs. They showed how 50% of every shrimp in the gulf is deformed, with tumors... They were showing shrimp, just caught with oil literally dripping from their gills. Locals have died. Kids are scarred. People are dying from respiratory issues. guys had wholes in their knees.... One of the divers said he took a dive to look at the spill recently and he soaked his gear in the bathtub and he woke up the next morning and all his gear was basically breaking down and flaking apart.... I mean, it was quite the eye opener about how HUGE the cover up way and how the US has not banned these chemical dispersements so BPs stance is that as long as Obama doesn't tell us we can't use it, we will continue.

Dude, the gulf is almost dead. There is still so much oil on the sea floor. There are hardened bricks of it washing up on land....

And then, watch the one about Fukashima... HOLY &^%$. I mean, worst nuclear disaster EVER in the history of mankind. They have hundreds of millions of gallons of toxic water leaking out of their storage drums, the drums are breaking down, its in the soil, its in the ocean, its in the air. They just removed soil from farms and they are feeding people nuclear waste... The radiation levels are still through the roof. The ocean is f'ed, the country is f'ed. The government has a new law that will put anyone who talks about it in jail for 10 years. I mean, it is INSANE.... They say that the radiation levels are emitting 600 times the amount of radiation and poison than the Hiroshima bomb....

I mean, these are two incredibly huge deals for all of us.... The Fukashima one is just a mind blower... absolutely insane. That whole country is going to be in jeopardy... and our entire ocean....

Dude, and they spoke with a woman from the Exxon Valdez and she explained that all the cleanup workers on that back in the day were pissing BLACK because of the exposure to the corexit. It is not supposed to come in contact with human skin. It says it breaks down your respiritory system immediately and poisons your entire body... Yet, the Gulf is FILLED with it, and our kids and our families and our fisherman are in these waters every day still... Not to mention at least a few dozen people on here. I'm not trying to be debby downer, but if you live on the gulf coast, you gotta watch this show and you gotta ask questions and you gotta do some local research about what is in the ocean that you recreate in. There has to be some kind of test you can run on local water there to see....

They say that the only thing worse for human exposure than corexit is the combination of oil and corexit. It is one of the most lethal combinations on earth...

Would definitely like to see those episodes.

And BP, F**k them. Wasn't there just a significant oil spill in Lake Michigan thanks to them? Like within months after they were allowed to operate again? I love how they make those commercials saying all is well in the Gulf. The BP executives should be crucified.

For real... I mean, I know all that propaganda was to save face and there are probably good people trying to help. But to see how heartless and crazy these companies are, and in kahoots with the freaking coast guard.... Instead of trying to find a solution, they just dumped lethal cheimcals to make the oil fall to the sea floor. EVERY LAST DROP of it is still there, slowly shifting around and will ALL eventually make its way to the coastline... I mean, they did NOTHING to try and remove it. They just literally hid it from visibility. They said the coast guard was helping them do fly overs every night. I mean, it is just a sad state of affairs...

They should all burn for this.

As I recall, BP was told not to use the Correxit, because it was too toxic, but they went ahead and used it anyway. Because they had lots of it.

But hey, the USA is a corporatocracy. Who are we to question their wisdom?

This was an internet show originally on youtube. I used to watch it when it was called The vice guide to travel. Shane Smith deserves all the credit and not that lying hack Bill Maher who comes in and takes credit for what was an off beat, free thinking, internet gem. Can only imagine how it will be twisted with Bill Mahers slimy hands on it.

I saw it. Fuggin BP is really shady. They dictated the way the "law suits" were arraigned. They said they didn't want to do a suit by suit court deal, but put it all in one heep. They knew there'd be dishonest people taking advantage of the situation. Sho Nuff, as soon as it happened, they quit paying and won't until it get's to the soopreme court. The corexit mixes with the oil and sinks it all to the bottom. Clean up complete. No more oil on the top.

I just love it, because every now and again, he will get the right group of conservatives and it is a SWEET scenerio....

Like the most recent one, this dude is just roasting Bill Maher about GM and all this other stuff. He is like, so wait, you are saying that GM, the motor company that took the biggest bailout in american history, just wasted all the money and continues to fail by making terrible products... Meanwhile, Ford has bounced back and better than ever and they refused the money....

Ohh lord, and when the get some right wingers and they start talking about climate change and Bill's oppositiion are actually in the field of science, i just get my popcorn and enjoy....

Like I said, I pretty much i disagree with EVERYTHING he believes, but he is funny as hell and I love it when he gets the right group on there. He will straight just change the subject.

The show states that the current administration has ZERO regulation on using it. They were instructed not to do flyovers in certain areas and not to cover anything up, which they did anyway... Don't know. But the official BP statement to the VICE show was "It is currently legal so use said chemical, so if that standard is changed, we will change out methods".

They actually never mention his name at all. I had watched 3 episodes before i knew he was the producer. I just saw it at the bottom of the episode description and I was like, ohh, thats interesting.

Yup, thats it in a nutshell.... Just seeing all those shrimp and fish and everything with all the tumors and oil leaking out of their gills is just a travesty. And this is footage from TODAY, not 4 years ago. They interviewed the largest wholesaler of shrimp in the entire gulf. He said he is selling 84% less or something than he did pre-spill. He said he started losing sleep because he was afraid that almost all the shrimp was contaminated, so they literally scrap like 80% of it.

I remember when this happened, I was a GM for a big restaurant company local to San Diego... The day the spill happened, our company made a purchase of about 1.2 Million in gulf shrimp that had already been fished and purchased a huge storage freezer to help keep through the season. Everybody knew what the deal was. I thought at the time, okay, I think you are overreacting. Guess not.

My P's live on the guff. They eat local sea and frolic in the water. A month after the spill, they both got sick with in a week of each other. Mom's guts shut down and dad got clots in his lungs. the Doc told my sis, that God wascoming for mom and if anyone needed to talk to her should do it now. I flew down there for the surgery. Then sent my wife down to nurse them both back. They still eat local skrimps and oysturds.

VICE is sick might I also suggest seeking out and watching these episodes (check you tube or Vimeo)...
-High shredability (Thomas Campbell, the Malloys, etc.)
    - Epically Later'd (various skaters)
-Memphis Crips vs. the KKK (probably only interesting if you are from the South and slightly skewed because they don't tell you the reason for the statue and the Park is because Nathan Bedford Forrest is buried there)
-VICE Guide to North Korea (just interesting)
    - General Buttnaked vs the Tupac Army (craziness in Liberia with child soldier cannibals and to think I once wanted to surf there)

Like Stranded / Zippy mentioned Vice Magazine has been making documentaries for years, long before HBO / Bill Maher got involved... some of them are crap but a lot of them are REALLY good; you can view them for free on http://www.vice.com/video but the search/organization is horrible, it's very very difficult to find a lot of the good content.

That's good to hear. I hope he has minimal say on the content and leaves it up to Shane. I loved the internet show and although there were times it seemed left leaning there were plenty of other times that seemed right leaning. Kinda like life actually.

curious to know how that's racist,if u are jewish then I apologize to you,but I don't get the logic.like saying any other ethnicity isn't racist, like hey that "Mexican" is carrying a shytload of bannanas.lol not racist.hey that "white guy" sure is stupid.its like jews can say jews, like how "black people" use the n word, and its only ok if they use it.like I said I like bill maher, most people hate him lol,but they don't hate him for being jewish.they hate him for being an atheist,so I don't even think u can call him a jew.when I say "jew" im not referring to the religion, but the people of Israel.like saying look at those "Russians." that's not racist, atleast I don't think it is.i only had 1 bad encounter with a jew and that was at the mall, one of those little kiosk sales girl who was 100 percent jew from the red sea or whatever they come from, tried to ambush me and sell me something as I passed by,then made a very very incredible hateful derogatory hateword towards americans(me).it caught me off guard,I swear to god I would've beat the living shyt out of her if it wasn't in the mall, like beat her to a vedgetable, and im no woman beater but she deserved a hellfire missile from America if I was in charge.if I said the remark on here I would surely get banned, but anyone who lives in America would want to go out and lynch the jewish people if they heard what I heard.
