i used adobe premier back in the day, but i think a lot has changed over the last 5-6 years. Final Cut, Avid, and Premier are all top notch programs, but are also not cheap.

    Depends upon your operating system

For PC, the standard is usually Adobe Premiere, for the Mac it's Final Cut Pro. There are alternatives like Vegas and Avid Express for PC, and Apple's freebie iMovie for the Mac, but they all have their different features and learning curves. There's also the price factor. You usually get what you pay for but remember that some require special cards or interfaces. Be sure to thoroughly investigate your computer's compatibility with the program you decide to purchase.

FYI- if you are a student, or connected with a school, Apple Computer has special pricing for students, faculty and schools, and software is often very well priced to establish brand loyalty. http://www.apple.com/education/store. You have to provide proof of connection to a school to get that pricing, and it's the same set-up for software education pricing through http://www.creationengine.com that will work on PC's or Macs.

I prefer Apple's Final Cut Pro Studio, mainly because I know it well, but then I've been a MacMan since the start. Here's some samples of one of my former student's work, all shot with Canon XL-1 camcorders and edited on the east coast's biggest Final Cut Pro editing studio. http://www.random1.com. Apple Computer even featured his work on their Pro website: http://www.apple.com/pro/video/chester/ Let me know if you want links to some of his other work.

Nope I just want to start making videos in my spare time for ****s and giggles. I have a dell inspiron e1705. I just took every program off it that I never use, so there's a decent amount of space on it. I'm sure I will be able to download any for free with a little research. Thanks for the info

I have used Pinnacle Studio. It is fairly easy to use, but older versions had a few bugs.

I really want to know how to have some cool fonts instead of an alone title page, different transitions, stop audio to have a voice recording then restart audio from where it left off..stuff like that. I haven't been able to figure it out so far and I have been using sony vegas. Any tips???

that and decent camera would help

The only tip I can give you is to check out the interactive tutorials in the help section. there's alot to go over. Most of the features you want to use though are pretty easy.

i hate windows movie maker more then any other program.

i used to put hours of work into a project, then it would freeze up and i would lose everything, saved or not.

i use priemiere pro, even on my mac, just because i'm used to the layout and how it works.
