I'm taking a free trip down to St. John, US Virgin Islands this March and July, I've been trying to research some places to surf while I'm down there. Its east of PR. and north of Barbados so I figured theres got to be some breaks. Has anyone been down there? or know of any spots near by. Some waves would make this trip so much better. I don't know what I would do in Paradise with no waves.
I'm not very familiar with those islands, but a few years ago my buddy went to tortola and brought back some pictures.Nothing huge, but there appeared to be a really nice break, and the beach was completely empty?!?! Not sure if tortola is even in the same vicinity as St John, but hopefully this helps anyway.
take a look at google maps, you'll see that st johns will pick up a NW swell on the north coast. It is going to be shadowed by N swells by the British Virgin Islands. I would imagine there could be some good setups there on the north coast, since it looks like the trade winds will be pretty blocked by the large headlands there.
I went to St Thomas and St Johns a few years ago with the family. Im 16. A lot of fun!!! We bodyboarded at some place in St John's called Trunk Bay. Nice 3-5 footers. This area is very fun and very beautiful, Enjoy it mate. Here's a link that might help. Otherwise go to google earth or google maps and zoom in on st johns and look at the bays on the northwest side that look pleasing. Just check if swells are heading that way when you get there. Otherwise, it may be flat. http://wannasurf.com/spot/Central_America/Virgin_Islands/index.html Trunk Bay...GOOD TIMES!
