naturally i would think the first spot you would check is the wharf or lighthouse in santa cruz to see what the lane is doing... it's the most protected spot in the area with abundant surf at this time of year. other options are natural bridges park and of course, opal cliffs and the capitola wharf which is protected as well but usually a notch or two smaller than the lane.

definitely in your best interest to stick around santa cruz though; central monterey bay isn't all that great usually and it can get pretty sharky with the water temperature dropping. i was born in watsonville by the way so i know the area quite well.

    Not
    A lot

    Here
    For
    CA

This area is kinda empty. 2 or 3 guys post here... some tumbleweeds blow through every now and then... nobody from the Central or Northern California neck of the woods really on this forum... the California section just never caught on like the east coast forums. Sorry man. I'm down here in Ventucky. I can't be much help to you up there.

Oh, and just to help... everybody here refers to California as California... when in Rome... not knocking, just trying to be nice and help... ;)

Stick to the SC area like the westside. But if the winds turn NW venture north on the 1 to Ano Nuevo State Park. It will be offshore there. So many nooks and cranny spots up there.

A friend of a friend surfs Ano Nuevo regularly and loves it. Always finds an uncrowded spot. He hits it several times a week. That area can be sharky. Watch out for nervous seals.

drive up towards half moon bay or, if you have the time, the beachbreak along ocean beach park in the city might have something from the NW coming in over the next few days. if that fails, at least you can check out the sights in SF
