I\'m an East coast surfer coming to CA next month, wondering if anyone can recc. a good place to surf? We will be in the LA, Santa Monica, and Venice Beach area. Are there any good shops to rent a board? Gonna be there for a week and don\'t know if its worth the hassle or the money to bring my own. Also, looking into the water temp wondering if there are recc. for wetsuit thickness? Have a 3.2 Want to make the trip awesome so any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

    from san clemente...ecuador....

that area is rife with all kinds of rental places since they are magnets for tourists etc. any one of the beaches within 20 miles north and south will offer essentially a similar experience with a few standout and obvious exceptions (malibu, HB, etc, which mostly have to do with crowds more than anything else). south facing beaches have different better days than the west facing beaches, so do a little research there to get a heads up as things get close. the summer water here is consistently in the high 60's with a WARM spell being only very low 70's. your wetsuit will depend on yer tolerance so there ya are. anything north of point conception (carpenteria, etc) will be colder and anything south of camp pendleton (oceanside etc) will be warmer, but not by much.

while yer in venice, get yer thc card, get some new ink and enjoy the weird.

    disfrutalo

    hope that helps
