Yeah the home break was spitting half clean two-fotters the other night and decided to take the LB and mid length with my wahine to meet up with buds and catch a few. Only 4th or 5th time ever on the 9-fotter. Been getting sick of trying to hack it like a SB so decided to use these 5-6 second rides to walk the board. Got past the label a few times and even got a foot to the edge once but had to cut the ride short because I was now in 6" of sand with an 8" fin. Shuffled at first them was cross-stepping. Yeah, a lot of this LB stuff is against my religion but it's helping my SB surfing and let's us go out even on near flat days. I just make sure I hammer the page a bit harder those days lol What's about some board-walking talk and advices on here? Too surf-related to ask? Ah, fock it. Let's hear it buoys.
Style counts. I say that because the foundation of good cross stepping and nose riding style is good technique. Quick steps, knees and ankles bent and loose, upper body straight, arms relaxed and below the shoulder... all these things that make for a smooth, flowing noseride are also very effective in allowing the rider to make subtle changes in weight and trim to keep the board where it needs to be on the wave to stay at the tip. And don't forget to walk it back, too. Just like an air or a tube ride... it doesn't count unless you complete and maintain control throughout the maneuver. Getting to the tip is only half the trick.
I like to think of it as ninja steps + walking like you do when you walk in the house at 3am from a long night out and everyones asleep.. https://vimeo.com/57403953
as soon as you stand up, immediately cross step (DO NOT shuffle) forward, repeat X1000 agree with LB, walk it back too

Ok- here are some tips: Cross step- never shuffle Be light on your feet- I usually cross step with my feet 45 degrees to the stringer pointing forward. Walk all the way up all at once- don't go half way and wait to see if the nose will sink- you will gain too much speed and miss the area of the wave where you want to nose ride. When walking to the nose- set yourself up on the wave correctly- you can't just do it at any point during your ride. That being said - there are about 3 ways to set up for a nose ride on a wave. (Also depending on board- nose rider or a classic shape- like a pig. Personally I like the way a pig noserides- much more control and more of a perch on the nose) 1- nose riding across a steep section. Easiest to learn- but least fun. 2- stalling while riding in the pocket- then walking up. 3. Turning up from the bottom of the wave to the top- and walking up while the board is climbing up the wave. (My fav) There are other ways- but these are easiest. Oh yea- style is important as Lbcrew stated- look relaxed. And keep your feet close together at all times- even while turning- only time you wouldn't is if you do a drop knee turn or something.. Hope this helps! Most of all - have fun! Longboarding can be soooo much fun- it just gets a bad rap.. Just be happy when you already got 10 long rides in and the other dudes on shortboard can't even catch a wave!
