For those of us on the east coast, it's a perfect evening to see a rocket blast off. From the Carolinas to New England. Check it out. http://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/files/20141015_ORB-3_Visibility_w-Traj_w-title.jpg Live feed for you losers on the other coast or, ugh, the midwest: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html#.VE6-ERauR-8
Countdown begins 633pm eastern time. Launch scheduled for 645pm. "Extraordinary azimuth for viewers up & down the east coast at 110 degrees & the rocket will be burning at significantly longer time, the second stage burn should be quite a treat as it tracks toward preliminary orbit." NASA
NASA engineers wearing 60's style shirts & narrow ties in tribute to Deke Slayton. c'mon this is way cool stuff
Good timing. I happen to be going to check out a local astronomy club / observatory demo in a bit. Maybe they'll point the telescope at the launch. Thx!
'Cygnus' is loaded with thousands of pounds of gear & scientific experiments. The gear is headed to the guys up there in the space station. Takes the space station to travel from above Vancouver to above Wallops approx 3 1/2 minutes. 260 miles up.
Check the map for when you might be able to see it in your region post-liftoff. Sounds like a porn flick.
