Ok so I know I have mentioned the fact that I make music on here. And well, Im bored and sick, so hey... Why not. I've been working on a downtempo album, aside from the glitchy in your face bass **** I usually make. I would think (from reading all your favorite bands in the past) that you all would enjoy this genera more. So don't tell me it needs more synth, because its just not that kind of an album. Thats cool stuff. I play both acoustic and electric guitar pretty well, if you ever wanna throw some of that in there, let me know.
What software are you using? I used to do the same using a program called fruity loops but it is so time consuming. Keep up the good work. A little more variety in the melody would make it more interesting however.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I use ableton live, and yes it is very time consuming. But I didn't have a job this summer, so this is what I did, hahaha. I hear ya about the melodies. To the Core especially needs some work on the piano part. I would say that Hairy Cairy and A Love to Call My Own, are the better 2 songs on there personally. Lots of transitions. And You Know, was kept almost repetitive on purpose, because in that song I'm almost trying to hypnotize the listener. Once again thanks for the feedback, and I'm glad people have enjoyed it.
I really like "a love to call my own"... I also really like what your doing its very trippy lol. I agree tho that you need a more driving melody, although too much of a melody will take away from what you have. But none the less its really good. first of all, I like your style. you've managed to come up with a sound that is definately of its own, which is really hard to do. very nice work with the phaser and fine touches. I've played and produced music for years now, so here's some advice. a good trick to really hear what it sounds like is to take the headphones off and put a cd of your tracks into a very cheap/basic boombox or something, and listen to them a few times. if you can get it onto a cassette and do it, even better. When I do this it tends to show me what accents need amplification. Headphones and good equipment can be your worst enemy as far as production goes, they generally produce too much of a beat and a distant melody. If you know someone that can press vinyl, get them pressed and see how they sound on some tables. My only other advice for now is to loosen up a bit on your drums and bass. Toy around with something other than a hip hop beat. Get creative and experiment. If you were around when jungle hit the clubs on the east coast you'll know where I'm coming from. All jungle (drum n bass) comes from one breakdown, the Amen break. One drum break created a whole culture, and tons of songs and sets. Think about that a minute.
Thanks for the input steelwave. Ya, I would say that my biggest struggle is getting my **** to sound good out of every system. I would say that mastering in general is my weakest point in my productions. And until I get Waves or T Rax, it probably will stay that way. The limiter in ableton is only so good. So far my strategy has been to listen to my stuff on as many systems as possible. Getting it to sound great out of my monitors is easy, getting to sound good on my friends crappy stereo is a whole other battle. Its amazing the differences from one stereo to another... Its funny that you say to make jungle, because when I first started it was pretty much all I made. I know all about the amen, in general I'm a breakbeat fiend. I love jungle. Ever heard of Ming + FS??? Their off the hook. I used to just try and make music like they did. The thing was, it just didn't sound like me coming out in the music. Finally I just said **** it. Loaded myself with enough sounds to make whatever music I wanted, and well this is what came out. So I guess thats why its an original sound. I just made what I wanted to hear. Then there is also the fact that I made each and everyone of these songs basically stoned out of my mind. So in essence I guess you could call it weed music.
