I've been doing wake surfing for a couple of years but I only get to do it over the summer when I'm at a lake. So I wanted to pick up regular surfing but I'm not sure what kind of board to get. I'm not looking to get a longboard, and I need something that can pick up small south Florida waves. I've longboarded a few times in the past. I know how to ride a wave, I'm just not as familiar with catching them or getting up on a board. I was looking into something like the flywire sweet potato since I heard good things about that board. Also I'm 6"3 and 160lbs.

youre already on a board, and its about as close to surfing as most people here get.

And until you post a proper hello threade, I find your name offensive.

Given this information I would recommend the "good girl gone bad" model surfboard

Get in touch with frost. He's the resident surfing boarde broker here. He can hook you up. What's a flywire BTW?

just what florida needs: another "surfer".

anyway, idk, sweet potato seems like a more advanced board to me...kinda like a mini simmons (one you buy when you want something out of the ordinary). Boards with those type dims might paddle better, but is going to get you used to flat turning right from the start and a lot of pearl diving. I've seen very few people do high performance surfing on them....and those are usually on better waves than FL usually has.

Always get the shortest board possible to start with. Ignore these fools who recommend a Walden Magic Model or some such shiiiite.

Butt the best advice you can take is to make a connection with a guy on SI Forum, name of wayne. He actually has free boards for you! Really! You can try a few out, see what suits you.

It gets better: wayne will give you so much more. Free overnight accommodation. Free massage for those tenderloin back muscles. Free food - - and he will likely feed you fresh protein - - as much as you want. I mean, hey, such a deal.

And, guess what you won't even have to feed the meter or risk a parking ticket. Nope. Because wayne will take you anywhere you want to go in his van! Free transpo. Free boards. Free food. Let us know how that works out for you, pilgrim.

You're going to need a longboard at first. Pick up a 8 foot wavestorm at cosco, ride it for at least 6 months, and then we can talk about something under 8 feet.

Take my advice and you'll be surfing on your first day, maybe. Or, get a Firewire and look like a duoche while you fail to catch waves.

truff. thats a bible verse i think, because its pretty historically accurate and 10000% true.

get something like but not necessarily a mid-long short board with wider slim dims and a single to double to flat concave with large thick performance rails
