Wanted FunBoard/Beginner Board

Well the Swallow tail will allow you to catch smaller waves much easier as well easier to manuver. I would go for it. It looks like the board i started on

 

It really depends on how your friend is at picking things up. For instance, my girlfriend has been a dancer all her life, and she picks up skills very easily. She had never been on a board of any kind her whole life, so I started her off on my 9'0 and within 4 sessions she had understood the basic concepts of paddling into/popping up/riding the face. Right about the 5th time we paddled out she took my 7'0 Fun board and was having a blast on it.

Pug Performer is actually a sick board....super light weight (trippy how light it is for it's size) and high performance hence the name. My wife has one...(which she doesn't use) so I do on small summer days. The thing could easily be used on overhead days...I just haven't never tried it. Usually just stick to my 6'1".

Great board though. You will not be disappointed.

 

I think $150 is fair.

 

I think either one of those boards would be good for a starter board, and the prices seem pretty good too.

Buying a board in your price range, I would recomend steering clear of any boards that show signs of delaminating. A delamination is where the outer fiberglass separates from the foam blank. When you press on it it feels kind of like a bubble. Hard to repair, and they often spread anyway even if you do repair them.

Little dings here and there are no biggie, just make sure you seal any that are open before you use it.

 

I was checking out the board today and saw a little area that is starting to delaminate, so I'm going to try and fix it, but I have never made a repair like this....it is a very small area...but will see...just wanted to be honest about it before you got super interested.....just noticed it today because I was going to fix minor dings on it.....I'm sure that brings the value down a bit but no worries.....
