Saw this pic dated 8/18 in NC. Did I miss something and it really this good down there this week? Or it's an old pic labeled 8/18/13?
Like Zippy said, Maryland was about like that. Maybe chest high and quite hollow...enough of a surprise that I had the wrong board Turns out my mini simmons ISNT the right board for this kind of punchy stuff. LOL
SC looked like mitchell's first pic on Monday evening. I was having a blast out there. I wish it would have stayed light out another hour.
Buoy 44009 - the one 26 miles off Delmarva was reading 4' @ 7 seconds. I left the house expecting maybe waist high soft wind swell. OCMD was making the most out of that little bit of swell, the after the guards came on, further south it actually was waist high and softer.
Ahhh Shark Hunter are you oot there? Take a look at Mitchell's(Swellinfo.com's, Delaware consumate guru...don't say "successful" say "scored") first picture. That's a nice, solid three-foot wave, but look it's literally head high. But it's not "head-high" when labeling the size of de surf. No, Shark Hunter, the guy's not three feet tall.......I contacted Mr. Mitchell and he measured the dude for me. He's 5'10'' Dang, when I clciked on this thread I was expecting something jaw dropping.........Yeah, Duck had a three foot bowl on the 18th? OK? Wow, I'm getting the feeling, from the things Jersey's northern residents are saying, that North Jersey isn't doing too good these days. They seem to be the most unhappy this summer........ That makes me happy. Oh well, at least they have all the political power and stuff. Funny thing is that if you take the Duck, NC photo and the two from the esteemed Mr. Mitchell........ok you got them......ok, well down here in parts of the south land(Jersey that is), it's been like that pretty much two times a week all summer long. Nothing crazy good, but under-the-boardwalk summer time fun. And NJNY, I'm not being a wise arse to you so don't get offended, and my North Jersey bashing is tongue-in-cheek. Someone has to do it. Hey, Pumpmaster has never explained to me where the phrase "tongue-in-cheek" originated from.
Jersey has been chest high and clean 2 times a week all summer? I didn't know Jersey was rivaling CA for wave consistency.
On Monday, Jersey definitely was chest high. I was the only one out at my break from 7am-945am. Best session in a very long time.
Really? I must have missed the boat on the one. Monday August 12 was pretty fun down here, but HHI must have been left out of that swell.
I don't keep tabs on California's surf......but if that's the best they are doing this summer then it's been a bad summer for them. A REAL BAD summer........ Yeah, I said "pretty much" two times a week. A few weeks it only happened once. But at least once every week, which isn't really saying that much ......... even two times a week isn't saying much.
No offense taken homey... I know it's not big, but it looks real fun. And South Jerz has NOT been that good all Summer.
Yes, it has. Is one or two waist-chest swells a week considered that good? My spot tends to do well in the summer. We usually get good sandbars, and we face south. So............It is what it is. South facing beaches pick up an extra foot or two on these summer type of swells. Remember that SW wind up north is South down here. Look you people I'm not making outrageous claims here. Two, three-foot days a week isn't mindboggling. If I was trying to sound cool, I would have made it seem a bit more dramatic. I didn't realize a couple, three-foot days was monumental to some.......I'm honest. I've swallowed my Southern Jersey pride and claimed you guys last winter. You guys, up north, got the goods and we didn't. Wake up white people(Daniel Carver).........this has been one of the wettest summers in the New Jersey region in recorded history. Records have been set. Sooooooooo, what usually accompanies rain and onshore winds? Right, waves. There have been one or two modest lows pushing through the area, weekly, throughout the summer. This past week Sunday aftrenoon had choppy surf in that range. Monday was fun. It was rideable if you were jonesing Tuesday through Thursday. And the front that pushed through Thursday night was one of the weaker ones of the summer and there was an inconsistent two foot screamer yesterday morning. Yeah, yeterday sucked. See, I didn't hype that one..... Look dudes, look stuff up. This July was the wettest in Philadelphia's history. And New York missed the mark by a fraction of an inch......I watch the PIX 11 News on Sunday nights so I know the happenings of NYC. Oh heck yeah. Kaity Tong, baby.
This is Nags Head on Monday afternoon 8/19. Lucky enough to be here on vacation this week. It's been one to remember.
