Hold out guys....I'm sure we'll get something worth while towards the end of the week. Although its a while away, Thursday is looking kinda fun.....
Finding shelter from N and S winds sure, but NE and ENE... i dunno any good spots for that, at least within reasonable driving distance. Yeah, Thursday hopefully the winds will lighten up enough to be fun, but they will still likely be S - SE.
Checking a spot, after work on tues. as well as thurs. yes the winds will still be on it, but it was already semi-clean on sunday and building. so at some point/points this week that spot should be a fun ride with punch and a little size. when everything else will be all mixed up, that spot should be ridable with hollow sections to duck into. I love that spot more on those Big NE Swells anyway, it seems to open up more and holds to the end of the ride!
Yeah I will be checking there every day after work, should be good, especially with a lower tide. Hopefully it will be worth while atleast one of these next few days.
the old guy at summer sun says it was good yesterday, good and bigger today, and should be good tomorrow. he also says it's not the greatest, because the wind isn't north enough, too much east in the wind
Yep, seek and ye shall find. There are a few places within driving distance that are REALLY good this week
ok based on what everyone's saying I'm thinking Cape May or "the hook" in southern most assateague of VA. too bad the piping plovers have closed off access till september.
Mmm... perhaps I should have stated, within driving distance "after work". But I'm hopeful for Thursday and Wedneday night might even let up enough to hit the south side of a nice jetty or pier. But offshores would be nicest.
waves. this is one of those swells you just shut up and surf it if you have to surf. i surfed sunday night and monday and had a lot of fun. so did several others. no current and the sections just ran together making for some ok rides that ended in the shorey. anyways, the way i look at these swells is to get out there and catch a couple big ones or go to the gym and swim and lift weights with meet heads... which i hate to do. so, a little wind is fun sometimes. plus, no crowds. if it was summer most spots would have been jammed up!
Obviously not a wasted swell if you went to south facing beaches the past three days. Now it might get good elsewhere. When the wind switches from northeast to southeast it sometimes lightens up in between, meaning tomorrow for the size and power. When it goes from dead calm before dawn Thursday to west-southwest at first light should make it clean and good, smaller and more manageable. Then the wind goes straight west by 2. The other bright side is a lot of bars got a much needed, long overdue pounding. Moving all the sand around is gonna get a lot of breaks in shape. Between tomorrow and Thursday the right break at the right tide should be good.
Yep, went to Cape May today..... it definitely was not worth the trip up... The swell just doesn't wrap around enough on these NE swells.
Not sure who told ya that but in the AM there was about a chest high wave coming through but the tide was super high, then in the evening on the outgoing tide the swell totally disappeared, shin high at best. We literally checked every spot that had any southern exposure. On a better note, tomorrow AM is looking fun for OC I can write that all I want and I can guarantee that it won't be crowded at 6:15
Wavehunter, when you first mentioned that there should be some spots that were really good this week, did you have cape may in mind? the reason I ask is because you said you went there. I'm trying to get an idea of where I should go on my drive up to MA.
