I dunno what the best waterproof camera is. but....I just picked up a waterproof housing for my girls SD1000 Canon point & shoot for $175. I recommend getting something like that. It's affordable
yes,...no need to break the bank. With the tech the way it is nowadays, if you do your research, you can end up getting some top quality shots for sure. I had been using a setup that was two years old. Pretty old really, for 3 to 6 month turn arounds on sensors and unpgrades,... but it could give high quality prints and shot widescreen video. However, that draw back on those types of things are Range and FPS. For my neck of the woods, (Delmarva), due to the shifty conditions and constant rips running off of the few consistent spots we have, unless you have a true professional rig, so that you will not lose image quality, you have got to be pretty close to the action/ and or have great lighting, period. But it is worth it.....you would be very happy at what you can come away with during a good session, (with the right rippers of course). Before you drop the money on a pro housing, ( do not buy used!), so that means 1000.00 bills at least on the housing,.. new? Then factor in the camera,...yes you can get a kick ass DLSR for 400.00 to 600.00 now, complete. So now you are starting to see the price.....and you better think about insurance for that amount of money, seriously. OR like has been said, research it. Man what they are coming out with now is all you really need. do some research,...I am not telling, but man, after all these years they have now got something on the market that is exactly what I have been waiting for. Hope I can swing it, but the feature set blows the doors on any reason why your would want or (really need?) to go DSLR ever again for watershots,......and yes, affordable. plenty of point and shoots with cases that are cheap/affordable, that will give great results. My wife bought me the Pentax Optio W60 for Christmas.Its 10 Megapixels with a 5xzoom.Its also got a wide angle lens.I haven't taken it surfing yet but it takes incredible pictures.Check out the website B&H from N.Y..Their the best around.This camera was $230.
This may sound like a silly question but what happens if the camera comes detached from the board or you drop it? Do they sink like a stone or is there a way of making them float. I love the idea of attaching one to the nose of my board but wouldn't be happy if I came home without it after paying out all that money!
i have a olympus stylus 770w, it is pretty nice - it's stainless steel, 7megapixil, waterproof to 33ft, crush proof upt 220lbs, dust proof and impact proof, you can throw it on the ground from 5 ft and it does not break i have what is called a sticky pod suction mount for doing point of view stuff and then i run a small lead to the leash plug. it does not fall off at all. one time my board flipped upside down and camera drug across the beach, absolutely no damage to the camera. 2 thumbs up for the stylus 770
