Swell is saying the buoys are reading 70 degrees offshore so I know it's colder nearer shore, but other sites got it between 42 and upper fifties so my question is. What's the real surf temp between the lighthouse and Frisco for this weekend?
looks like you found a bug, but you can look at the buoy stations on the buoy data map. the buoy at the oregeon inlet says 40 degrees. the buoy on the diamond shoals buoy says 50 degrees (off the coast of the lighthouse).
Swell, I found this Satellite image that shows surface temp (not even gonna pretend to say I understand they get the reading from a Satellite) but it is wild how much the surface temp fluctuates day to day near the shore on the tip of Hatteras.... http://marine.rutgers.edu/mrs/sat_data/?nothumbs=1&product=sst®ion=capehat
ya, the gulf stream runs pretty close to the coast along the Outer Banks, so changes in currents can either bring in the warm gulf stream water or push it further out to sea. I wish that satellite data was better, so that we could pull data from these high-res shots. You can see how there are lots of gaps in the data, where there are no colors.
