It is really surprising to me that water temp of the northern OBX is in the 50s while VA beach is in the 70s. I guess it is the Arctic currents have an express path to the OBX.
Its called " Up welling" and whats happening is when we get these South West winds.. it takes the warm water out to sea where the warm water tucks under the cold water. This ends up bring the cold water in.
yeah i was surfing obx last week then moved onto va beach later that day and it was such a difference
