Hey everyone. Im looking to buy a nice, waterproof camera/camcorder to take videos and pictures with for a video i want to work on this winter. I was sure that i wanted a go pro 3 but i soon realized that the more surf videos i watched with them, the less i liked the angles. Plus, i wanted to be able to take pictures and know what i was looking at without buying an extra accessory/attachment. So ive decided to branch out and look for other options. I found the Nikon Coolpics Aw100 and was really liking that, but before i want to make any impulse decisions i thought id bring it to the forum to see all of your opinions on camera/camcorders for recording surf vids. Thanks in advance!
this looks pretty capable and has the ability to use different lenses. I've never used it so I can't say its a recommended reply. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympus-tg2
Anything within the Canon G Line with a water housing. The most recent model is the G15. This can be pricey because the camera is like $500, and then the housing additional, but the camera itself is great quality, and can be used for things other than surfing.
I was looking for a tough/water proof camera, too (not just for the ocean, but for the freeze proof battery when snowboarding). What I've been finding in the reviews is that none of the lower priced ones are very reliable at keeping out water. Anything with a separate water housing is probably the way to go.
Im not a discerning photo type but I bought one of these and have put it through some decent abuse. I usually keep it submerged in the size zipper pocket of my board shorts so its always underwater. Its handled full days of surfing, snorkeling, benders on the beach, and lots of falls and takes decent video too. May be too budget oriented for your use but its bargain in my opinion http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-TG-82...653&sr=8-2&keywords=Waterproof+camera+olympus
