One thing they have in common is that the technology for both wave pools and blow-up dolls has made huge leaps in the past 10-15 years. So a friend tells me.

Back in 2009. my then-fiance was almost temporarily relocated to Denver for work, but it (thankfully) fell through and we didn't go. We were going to go out there, but it was only going to be for 8-9 months. I remember desperately scrambling to food a wave pool there, as it would have been my only means of surfing, except for maybe when we came home around the holidays. I think I found one, but it was only open May-September and we were going to be there from August-May.

I really have no urge to use one, unless I'm temporarily landlocked for an extended period of time.
