random question, is there anywhere in the usa where waves break from the ocean into a wooded or marshy area without a beach?
when adrenaline from the possibility of blunt trauma on rocks isnt enough, throw in some dead heads to get impaled on...
Here are a few from eastern shore. I believe these are from the atlantic side of the barrier islands. I'm not positive though. They're from this set of pics on flickr. Some of the setups look like they could have potential on the right swell. http://www.flickr.com/photos/campbellfieldairport/sets/72157594301326476/
hunting island in SC erodes so much its got trees everywhere coming out of the water. the usually make for better waves around the thick patches though so ive dinged a few boards that way
On those Eastern shore pics...is that VA? You know how we imagine waves breaking in our local water ways...just curious if there is anything like that? Not trees in the line up, but just wavesbreaking into a forest...weird question i know...
Pritchard's Island near Hunting Island and Fripp Island has waves that break into the tree line. I haven't surfed it. Send pictures..
there is a national park that connects sandbridge to corolla called false cape. There are some submerged stumps around there that make things interesting. Heck, rodanthe looks about like that but they are all pilings from fallen houses. Also, if you have ever surfed in the bay you can contend with a wave that breaks into someones grassy manicured lawn and runs over some abandoned piers.
I think you're talking about PineCones out on Long Island... some say its flat out impossible to find though..... rated world class break though breaking like 300 days year. lol.
Yeah corolla(Northern Outer Banks going into Carova) has these stumps in the line-up and all over the beach. They are everywhere after a serious NE blow or hurricane. This is a 4X4 area only heading up to Carova. Lots of injuries from people hauling ass on the beaches up there(nailing a big stump) every year! Uh, stump it wasn't there ealier....duh it was high-tide jacktard!! So slow ya roll when heading up that way...
I've bloodied a knee coming after a session on one of those bad boys. I've also narrowly avoided a head-on collision while stopped because some tourtards thought it was a better idea to look at the pretty horsies instead of where they were going!
Marsh areas surround the northern gulf coast around Louisiana. This type of ocean bottom isn't too condusive for surfing waves. Coastal bays and rivers can host waves, but these are found mainly in undeveloped regions. Indo comes to mind.
Awesome photos Goosemagoo. I just looked at all 400+ photos. Are any of those houses out there for sale? Lol, talk about private beach front property. That gallery makes me really want to get out there and kayak or SUP around there. Thanks for sharing.
If I'm not mistaken, GA has their share as well. Typically where Mr. Teach used to hide a fair share of his booty
We used to have a break like this with tree stumps in the lineup, but they cleared out all the stumps, which was terrible for the wave. The stumps do a good job of holding the sand in place.
micah- i posted on a non surfing forum the same question and someone said louisiania...ive googled mapped areas, and i could see some areas with trees in lake type areas, but could not get any looks at ocean areas...
