Saw the low in the Gulf and started checking out the forecast......didn't know the east coast of Mexico in the Gulf got waves. They are about to have a week long swell.....Just an anomaly (probably) or does it happen often? http://www.swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/nautia-mexico
idk how often it happens but, that report shows the winds being onshore at almost every spot at the same time
That's what happens when a tropical depression/storm/hurricane is projected to form. For our next lesson, where would this storm go after it crosses Florida?
yes, that is a tropical entity showing on the forecast. But, that area does get consistent waves in the winter time.
This time next week if this swell really happens in the Gulf then I'll post a pic of my saluting you good brahs down there as I'm ejecting off the shoulder following dos Carolina cuttys.
Word up Emass. Ever since you said you were hittin the gulf next week, I PM'ed MY SAVIOR and asked him to holla at the big man upstairs and order you up some swell. Your welcome bruddah. Enjoy.
true. Back in the 90s, I bought surfer mag's map of all well known/consistent spots in mexico and was surprised to see vera cruz on the list. It has the least amount of continental shelf in the entire gulf.
Lots of spots in the Gulf get swell. And more often than you'd think. But usually onshore windswell junk.
The Mexican gulf goes off! Not super consistent but world class set ups. I lived and surfed there in the late 80's. some of the best spots in veracruz Are: marti (shallow reef left), camaronera, boca Andrea and boca del rio (mocambo) Tuxpan also has a 200yd. Point. The place is full of coves, headlands reefs and beach breaks. When I live there only about 5 people surfed. I heard from a friend that now there's a big surf scene. Still a cool place to visit and very good, out of the way breaks. Very litle continental shelf too.
Yeah I figured it was a non typical swell especially for this time of year. Yeah you can see some of the setups on Google Earth def looks pretty cool. Alas, when would you ever go surf there unless you lived in South Texas or had to be in that area for some other reason. I've seen some surf in a few random places including Korea, Vietnam, lake Michigan and playa del carmen in Mexican Riviera. On a side note, it's pretty cool when there is an actual discussion about surfing on here instead of a bunch of tossers blabbing on about belmar or flying a flag or whatever cheers
