My new epoxy long board might be ready in a few weeks, so I will be ditching my beloved soft top, which almost never needed new wax. It just stays on like forever and doesn't get grimy looking.

So, I know the wax situation on an epoxy board is different with needing to apply it, and sometimes scrape it off. My friend said to use The Pickle and a plastic wax comb scraper.

My husband said to use WD40. Course, he is a successful Poker Player, and handy around tools, but doesn't surf.

I read about that citrus spray, but the smell is a real turn off.

Is there a problem with WD40? Is that the chemical inside The Pickel?

Seriously? Just put it in the sun then use a playing card or plastic card and scrape it off. Wd40?

Do NOT use WD40. You'll be slippin all over the place no matter what wax you put on it - lol. The only "grease" you need is elbow grease.

Warm Sun to loosen the basecoat, old credit card to scrape it off. If it is for the softtop, do not use a metal or sharp edge scraper. If you have to use a solvent use Bestine. You can get it at Michael's or AC Moore red & black can by the rubber cement/glue section. It will work on the little bit of adhesive that is in the wax. Put a little on a clean rag and rub it out.

Put some old towels or teeshirts into a pot of hot water. Not boiling!!! throw them over the board and the wax should soften up enough to easily scrape off in about 5 minutes.

If you have layers of old wax you may have to do it a couple of times.

I like to use a plastic scraper that you can buy at home depot/lowes or your nearest hardware store.

Also if you feel uncomfortable doing it yourself go to the local Surf Shop and let them do it.

Do what Mattyb said. Put the board in the sun. The wax will virtually liquify in short order. Then use an old credit card or your wax comb scraper (anything stiff plastic, not metal) to easily scrape the majority of the wax off. Follow up with a few swipes with a paper towel and you're good for some fresh wax. Just let the board cool back down before re-waxing.

WD-40 is great for all kinds of stuff and likely won't harm the board but I think it'll just make it a bigger mess. Besides you'd need to clean off the WD-40 before applying new wax.

i just scrape as much as I can with the comb/scrape tool and reapply. Or use the pickle on the remaining wax. Works like a charm. Doesn't matter if it's warm, cold, hot whatever. Don't bake your board. There's no need for that.

WD 40 is for rusty bolts, not for surfboards. Please.

Betty - the Pickle is a nice product and it works. I've found Goo Gone to be a cheaper alternative...safe and quick and sold in hardware stores.

Set the board in a the sun for a few minutes to soften the wax.
Scrape the majority of the wax off a wax comb.
Use Goo Gone and paper towels to remove the rest a $4 bottle from the hardware store will do a dozen boards.
The spray on is fine, but this stuff in a bottle is cheaper and works just as well. The smell isn't a factor.

As was said above..NOT acetone, NOT WD40.

They are all punkin you out!!! follow this tried and true method.
1st get a drill with a buffer attachment and some 60 grit sand paper, oh yeah and do this in your living room.
2nd turn the drill on at its highest speed and make sure you press the drill down as hard as you can.
3rd go over every inch of the board, both sides since it's new.

I promise if you follow these three simple steps you will never have to wax that board again.
Oh yeah and I forgot to mention , don't go in the ocean because that's where I have seen some sharks. Wait until some one starts an ALL CLEAR tread so you'll be sure to stay safe.

This seems to be a hot topic, it always come up through the year.

    Here are a few don'ts:
1: hair drier or some source of direct heat
2: too much time in the sun
3: acetone or any kind of solvent
    4: metal putty knifes
    5: sand paper

    Do:
1: Elbow grease - it works great, buy some at Home Depot, just ask the guy what isle its in
2: hot water- works best for softening wax and safer then sun or direct heat
3: goo gone- the stuff is like gold. Then windex to clean off the goo gone
4: some kind of soft plastic to scrape

Oh yea , and always remember to wax the bottom of your board... It makes you grip the wave better

sun or hairdryer, wax comb, foam dust (or pickle) or paper towel if you have neither. Never ever put chemicals on your board, believe it or not even though the board is sealed with resin there is a chance that porosity exists. Epoxy Foam pulls in air/water etc..

A little sun, plastic credit card, Goo Gone... AND if you want the board completely free of all debris, Corn Starch... No Ish, It sucks up all the residue. Not Corn Meal... Corn Starch...
