I was out in the water tuesday morning at WB,right in front of the set of twin houses on C street. The waves were pretty fun, nothing special a few guys out but not to corwded. I noticed a couple beside me, an older guy and a girl enjoying the surf. The older guy then yelled out to his younger female counter part, "the vibe here is horible". The girl then stated "I know, Its like surfing in the middle of some kind of gang".every one in the water was well in ear shot of each other. And they made it a point to make their statement heard, I just laughed it of. I took a look around and a few guys gave it a smerk, didnt pay it to much attention. I does get packed form time to time and things heat up a little. Session after session I see the same faces out there, all up and down the Wb. And i for the most part notice people i havent seen before out there, but i feel like everyone pretty much respects everyone.Ive never had a problem with anyone,I was just wondering if any one out there has experienced some of the same situations. Or caught any heat form people that dont surf the wb on the reg. Iam stuck in my cubicle for another 10 hours so i thought id share my story.
Ya should of dropped in on em, you pay to play right..Thats funny though. I have def. seen some aggro people down at folly when there is a good swell, def. heard of a few fights down there as well. If its a good break and there isn't many areas to work with holding the swell, people who know each other are going to let you know that, if you are around them on a peak. Hawaii is pretty insane with some of that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiTI5x8gph0 Check this one out, which is pipe masters, which is pretty serious stuff, thats def no wave to joke around with, check out sunny and those boys ready to maul Neco.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBlgUG9zXGA&feature=related Def. hate to see it, but the passion is high.
i truly havent seen anyone talking abou the vibe but as th lifegaurd season was getting closer to the end i did notice alot of people obeying the lifegaurd rule down at crystal but i just think that they didnt know what the rules were.
I've never experience any bad vibe at WB, but I''ve only surfed there 2 times, and both were very uncrowded days. I have heard from lots of people that the vibe is less than chill though. At CB it all depends on the day. I've been out on perfect stomach and glassy days were everyone is taking turns and being really cool, hooting and hollaring. Then I've been out on similar days were people are dropping in and snaking other left and right. I am dfefinitly a familiar face down there and I still get attitude from some people. Granted I'm not the best surfer, but I do my best to stay out of other's way. On Sunday when the waves were still head high from Hannah, there was this one guy who seemed to be upset that it was so crowded. He was saying to a friend, but so everyone could here him, "This is like ****ing Wrightsville surf camp. I feel like I should grab a soft top board and push these guys into the waves." I feel like at one point he was directing the comment straight at me, but I'm a very chill person and just let it go. If he wants to be aggro, let him. I'll just catch my waves and have a good time.
I think its funny that the guy they are interviewing almost doesn't seem to care. Its like, "we'll he shouldn't have dropping in on him." lol
