I dont surf or go for a run or yardwork, etc. with the wedding ring on - just like I use my casio g-shock when I'm playing & yardwork... I have a tag heure that's my 'dress watch' and my wife kinda understands the ring is a package deal with the watch and she's cool with it. if your fiancee is going to get bent out of shape over the ring thing, maybe...you know.
Dude, I swear that is verbatim what my fiance said!! haha. Not about getting a cheap one, but just that I will no doubt lose it. Its not that I want to take it off, I just dont see a ring staying on under water day after day.
19 years of marriage. Much of it in NCal - cold water, no gloves. Never thought about it, never lost it, but I have a snug fit. I almost never take it off. Also works great as Sand Cougar repellent....
If it's important to you, get a tattoo band around your finger and skip the ring. I wore one for a while and took it off before every surf but lost it four months after the wedding while planting bulbs in the garden one November as the sun went down and it got cold and my fingers shrank. Bought a $25 replacement and lost it in two weeks. Now neither my wife nor I wear rings. No big deal.
I try to take mine off, but have forgot a few times plus it has only been a year and half. Judging by the number of lost ring stories I need to make sure I take it off 100% or go buy a less sentimental ring. I wear my deceased father's ring and I think I would go off the richter if I lost it!!! I am thinking I need to visit the bubble gum machine to get me a "stand-in ring".
Married 26 years, with the original ring. Always take it off. If my wife is on the beach when I go out she will ask if I have it on. I've worn it under gloves - by accident - and it's not that noticeable with the today's gloves. Congrats Zach, and good luck.
If your future wife is giving you a hard time about taking of your ring to surf, break it off now because she's an insecure nut case who will haunt you the rest of your life !!!!
Haha. No, its not like that. I am the one worried about it. I dont wear jewelery, so I had never thought about it... and as for my future wife, i convinced her to move 3000 miles away from her family so that I could chase waves and live my dreams. And 8 years later, she is still by my side and I have been able to do what I love every day of my life. She has clocked like 500+ hours behind my video camera taking surf footage. Countless voyages to mexico when she probably shouldnt have gone... Long story short is that this girl is a surfer's dream. She is down. So I guess I am the lucky one. This wedding just makes it official. Not to mention that she wanted to go to Maui for the honeymoon, so I can surf. She is also letting me bring my golf clubs, so the fact that the wife to be has given me the o.k. to surf hawaiian points all week and golf tropical golf courses makes her an A++++++++. So, many people have commented about this ring question being pressure from her. Not at all. I am a dumbas$ and she has to help me find my car keys everyday. I can't even keep track of a pair of nice sunglasses much less a ring! So this question was all me.
i wouldn't do it dude. i would take it off. i don't even wear body jewelry in the water. thats one place i remove everything before going in.
not like you need more useless info.... i take mine off and put it in the ashtray/cash tray i keep my shower quarters in. the hand shrinkage is real in cold water... and i understand the space cadet aspect...once you establish a routine, it's easier to remember what to do with it and where it is...also, i heard somewhere that flashing jewelry attracts sharks....of all kinds. congratulations and good luck
I keep mine in the same drawer at home before leaving to go surf. I'm too worried about losing it in my car or worse, a break-in or stolen car.
I used to lose rings all the time so seldom have worn one for 30+ yrs. Misplaced my wedding ring and found it this summer during a major cleaning after it being MIA for 15+ years. Forgot where I put it already! Like the lady said it really is of no great consequence. And it certainly beats a couple of buddy's deep sh*t after losing their rings while surfing -- big lay downs from the wifey plus major expense in buying a new one.
I'm with Zippy on this. I hate jewelry. I bought a back-up ring. I keep it in my car. I wear it when we go out someplace nice together (cause I usually forget the original). Most of the time my original is sitting at home. I wear it from time to time cause I know it makes her happy, but I would never wear a ring surfing. That's just asking to lose it.
....lost i have now lost 3 at the beach. $$$$ (just dropping it in the sand is a total cluster fvck). her irritation will be more if you lose the ring. take it off and leave it in the car.
That is what I keep trying to tell my wife. 19 years in - I ain't going nowhere. Ring or no ring. I don't wear it much anymore - between taking it off for surfing and other activities - just got used to it being off and now it is uncomfortable to wear it But yeah, I used to take it off to surf or if I forgot I switched it to my other hand to make sure it didn't fall off. Surfing widow doesn't need to hear you lost your ring while surfing.
