HA! sorry if I called you a tool, my filter is a little worn out. As far as those businesses supplying jobs... yeah, minimum wage non-benefit jobs. Local businesses who cater to the tourists- kudos. Big chain businesses who come down and displace ma and pop to employ a bunch of Russian exchange workers- BS! THEY TOOK OUR JERBS!
Agree. Don't go back north towards Corolla its a waste of time and you stand a very good chance of getting stuck in gridlock traffic. I never look for waves up that way its just not the same OBX experience up there. Also agree with the surf report for Corolla....its hyped all the time and actually the pics usually tell the story.
ok ive agreed with ya twice now. the wallymarts are sucky. i know a few local people who benefitted from the chainers tho.good folk.
Just arrived in OBX around 2pm today. Love this place. God's country!!! I'm road weary and exhausted from traffic so no evening session for me (plus its really windy and blown out...still looks 100% better than OCMD waves though). I think I'm doing a early morning session as it looks like it might clean up a little in the morning, plus I'm tired...only got 3 hrs sleep.
Well got back to Fredneck on Saturday to daydream about last week. Awesome week. Surfed Monday thru Thursday every morning around MP 9 between 8-10am. Found a nice sandbar break at one of the beach accesses. Every day surfed solo...no one else in water around me (55 degree waters probably helped alot...I was in a 4/3 with boots..looking like a freak in july), and waves were fun and easy to ride (about thigh/waist high everyday and easy riders even on my 7'2'' funboard). Caught more waves than I ever did before in the past 5 years since I've been surfing so it felt great. On Thursday, I even had some dolphins cruise in on a wave about 20ft from me. I missed the wave to ride though...got spooked by 'em! Actually I got kinda spooked after that experience and called it a session (go ahead and laugh). The shark attack 5 miles south just a few days before got me thinking too much, plus I was the only one in the water which made me feel more like a lone target to chomp. Anyone else in OBX sporting a full suit last week with boots like me when water temps were in 50's? I tried my 2mm rashie 1st day and my arms and legs were painfully numb. I went full rubber every day after that. Hot as hell on the beach though until I could strip out.
Agreed! Family took one of the "horse jeep tours" up the beach north of Corolla. While the guide was talking about things...naturally I was scouting surf breaks the whole drive. Didn't see anything worthwhile. Traffic does suck South Shores/Duck area as well. I'll never go back up that way. Waves were 1-2 ft. smaller I noticed than down in KDH area where I was surfing.
