Don't cry shark hunter brah! Somebody did the same thing to me, except it's whenever I look at a wave cam. It could be 23 foot, and all I'll see is the flatness between sets and a few dudes sitting on the outside if I'm lucky. Just go check it for Gods sake. And bring a bucket.... of fried chiiiiicken!

Wow..trust me you are lucky if you've only seen a blown forecast 5 times in years. I get skunked by unforecasted sea breeze coming up and turning conditions to crap that many times every May-August alone.

Luckily I have no expectations at all about local summertime coastal wind forecasting from any website, because it is in my opinion still pretty much beyond the state of the science.

HAHA That's too funny, but I wasn't in a debate with anybody, just giving my .02, but I know who you're talking about. Zach is just stoked about SI, as I think most of us are with the exception of ole SH, that dude gets skunked on the reg, and rightfully so...

Lucky indeed, a little skill involved too, but I am also lucky to have access to such a great resource at no charge.

You're not lucky. You're full of crap and I'm honestly surprised someone else called you out on your B.S.

DP, I too use SI faithfully, today though, and it is a rare instance, that i took a look at SI and the graph said knee high, and then I looked at the buoys and it was 3.6ft. @ 11 secs., well I ran down to the beach early and low and behold chest high and clean, surfed till 11:00 when I got my fill...always check your buoys, they don't lie, i've caught so many days when theres an empty beach and a pumping swell coming in. The old man has spoken.

Buoys do lie. Seen it happen today. It's not that the buoy is lying. It's that it's way off shore here in new england. Want to know what doesn't LIE...???

    A clear HD CAM.

Hey Zach, how did you go from surfing san diego to south carolina? I'd hang myself. If I ever get up the money, I'm going to get there for a trip and video tape myself riding at blacks beach getting shacked out of my mind on my bodyboard.

I'd like to figure out how to read the buoy info. How the heck do people predict the surf from those charts?????

    I'm finishing ****. I NEVER start ****.

I never make personal attacks until there made against me. Period.

I don't give a rats ass about stand up surfing talent. It's as meaningless to me as watching sean white skateboard.

3 feet at 8 seconds usually means waist high
4 feet at 9 seconds would be shoulder high
6 feet at 10 seconds would be overhead.

    For EAST COAST:

    7-8 seconds = short period
9-11 seconds = powerful mid period
    12+ = groundswell

Anytthing less than 7 is just chop

Then you can further break down swell components to wind wave height and swell height. Two different components. If you got something over 3 feet on the swell height component then it's going to be macking on the ec. Good swell in the water.

Also pay attention to wind wave direction to make sure it's headed towards your beach

He doesn't just stand up surf, he surfs short boards, long boards, whatever the surf dictates.

I meant standing on a surboard. LOL Any type of standing on a surboard vs lying down on a bodyboard.

I know nothing about florida, except that winds never seem to go offshore vs here we get offshore winds all the time. And you guys seem to have trouble getting barrels without a serious ground swell. Here in northeast we can get barrels on a 7 second swell. Now all of that is just based on what I've seen. Not based on actually living there and riding there.

Videos of FL during serious swells(that hardly ever happen) look pretty sick though. Jacksonville beach during hurricane bill looked awesome.

It's amazing the way your beach breaks can handle a hurricane swell. They seem to be built for it. Around here, we get huge closeouts at beach breaks.

The stuff at the pumphouse during sandy was insane, but totally over my level.

But on a daily basis, looks pretty weak. You do have warmer water though. That's a plus.
It's like looking at ruggles during bill and thinking that what RI waves are like.
