wetsuit advice....again

These 4/3's will only get you through the fall and spring, most likely not winter. Why would you get a more expensive one if you think you are wasting money on these?

I'm having the same problem for fall and spring surf, however it's best to actually try on the suit rather than buy online so you can have your needs fulfilled.

 

What he said. Some people think a 4/3 will work, but you WILL be uncomfortable.

 

I got the Hyperflex flow in a 5/4/3 paid 219 for it last year its a really warm suit very little flushing and has good flex and the price is affordable too.

I have the 3/2 in they hyperflex amp and I can use it to mid nov and it cuts out the need for a 4/3.

I dont like back zips my self i find that they tend to flush alot and let cold water in on duck dives and such.

You could get everything you need boot gloves and a suit for around 325 if you went the with all hyperflex.

I had a billabong suit and I didnt like it cause it let alot of water in around the neck but it could have been how the suite was cut .

Try diffent brands see what fits best is your best bet

 

i got a decent 5/3 and 5mm booties and gloves for a grand total of 150. craigslist for the suit and online for the boots/gloves. just make sure you check the suit before you buy. sometimes people just dont need their stuff anymore

 

The hyperflex looks good. Oniel Pyschofreak is excellent also. I'd stay away fro Billi. Ive been winter surfing with a Psycho 2 4/3 for a bunch of years but have to wear underarmour underneath. I'm out for 5 or 6 hrs straight but I do get cold. Rather surf with something warmer soon like the Freak or Hyper or a Patagonia. but Patagonia is pricey. Also considering getting a Rip curl heated vest to go underneath. Anything to keep the kidneys warm. I look for versatility in one suit for as many seasons as possible. Nice to have a second suit soon.

 

i actually just bought that oneill epic 2ct a couple days ago from the same website but it hasnt arrived yet so well see how it goes. my 3/2 is about 4 years old and is getting really leaky and i tried resealing it with rubber cement but it didnt help much so i bought it for a more comfortable transition from 3/2 to 5/4.

my two cents:
if youve never owned a wetsuit before i HIGHLY recommend going to a surf shop and trying a few on. wetsuit warehouse is a good site with more affordable deals but you cant completely rely on the sizing charts. according to my weight and height i should be a small, but i only wear mediums because whenever i put on a small i am unable to raise my hands over my head.

i also recommend getting a wetsuit from oneill, ripcurl or xcel just because, in my own opinion, they have a good track record for manufacturing durable and high quality products.

ive never owned a hyperflex but a couple of my friends use them. the general consensus is that they are significantly lighter and more flexible than other brands. my one friend's hyperflex 5/4 weighs half as much as his xcel 5/4 and ive felt this myself. (it wasnt water weight because his xcel had not been used in months when he showed me)

i forgot to add that ive been told they are not as durable and will not last as long.

no matter what wetsuit you get, how you take care of it makes a big difference in how long it will last

 

i use a 4/3 and am fine in the winter. it has no zipper so that probably helps. i have a seperate rashguard/hood that i use. good gloves and warm booties. altho i dont surf alot in the winter, it gets me by when the conditions are right...head high, sunny, light offshores, long lines.
the only part that gets cold my exposed face when i duck dive.
charging in cold water is no fun for me. but respect to the guys that do it. ill stick to the DOH+ stuff in the tropics.
