I surf in vetnor city/ocean city nj starting in the end of may. I am looking for a new wetsuit to buy for start of the summer. My old oneal reactor 3/2 gave me terrible rashes under my arms and around my neck. Where should I buy a new wetsuit and what brand should I use. Any advice is great.
Pump, chest zip/glued for spring? I am sure any of your local shops would appreciate the business, or Wetsuitwearhouse and there are a ton of other online shops for suites. I personally like Rip Curl, everyone has their favorites. Try a rash guard or rub some vasoline under your arms and neck. I get it in the summer (no suite or rash guard) under my arms, so before I paddle out, I rub a little vasoline under there, good to go!
Coupla things: 1) No Hello tread? 2) See the SI Glossary for proper spelling and usage of terms. 3) End of May, huh? Yes, we are all anticipating the start of surfing season. 4) o cole
a. How do you recover from that awkward slip of the tongue, when you're conversing with a non SI person, and you utter the term 'wetsuite', and they look at you like you're retarded? b. For those of you who live/surf alone, what do you do when you can't get your back zip wetsuite zipped up before your session? Go knock on a neighbor's door and ask them to zip you up? Approach strangers on the beach?
HA HA HA HA, jump around bent over like a fruitcake while pulling the cord. Or, unzip and start over.
Maybe you can find some good advice in this thread: http://www.swellinfo.com/forum/showthread.php?25981-Wetsuit-Advice
they make sense on this basic level - you're about to duckdive...but too late....kaboom. on your back/shoulders lands all that heavy water....its ultimate destination inside your suite...
I can def see that logic! I have a Dawn Patrol 5/3 back zip with the water guard and I didn't have any problems this winter. I mean, I got a little water in, but nothing bad. Next suite will be a chest zip
There is a lot of difference in 3/2's. Ive got a matuse hoplite 3/2 that is very warm and rugged. It is close to 5 years old. The warmth comes from the chest, back and both arms covered in the wind resistent shiny rubber coat. The most flexible (unbelievably light and stretchy) 3/2 is a rip curl e-bomb chest zip. Its not as warm as the Matuse. For water in the mid-upper 50s I would prefer the Matuse. For anything above 60, the Rip Curl. If you arent getting in until the end of may, then any 3/2 should suffice. Except for maybe this year! Xcel 3/2 infinity chest zips seem to be on sale on Whiskey constantly. I've had them and they are great.
I used to get neck rashes in the 3/2 until I switched to my 4/3. In retrospect I would've bought the 4/3 off the bat... If you can get a hooded one - even better, gotta protect yourself from surfer ear, ear plugs don't work jack. Good luck brah, I heard they don't surf liquor in OCNJ, what's THAT about...
So, the forecast icon isn't recommending what to wear. Witch wetsuite is good for this week into the weekend?
