old 3/2's make good spring suits - cut off the arms and legs as needed and you get a functional comfortably worn spring suit.
started out with oneill, but sizing doesn't fit me right. technobutter is stretchy, but the wind cuts right through it, my mutant was better and kept me warmer than the 5.5/4 i tried went with a patagonia r5 and its going on it's third season here. will probably need a new one in '21, but it's held up well. coldest session i had with it was about 2.5 hrs @ 1* and water temp of around 30-32*. hands and feet were the only things that got cold, suite was warm the whole time. patagonia boots are best, their gloves are terrible. get pin sized holes after just a couple uses. oneill & excel gloves have been great. xcel boots blow big donkey coq, even worse than patagonia gloves...xcel boots just aren't warm.
No hype here, behind my kids Halloween mask I am all smiles.. THANK YOU CURL! I am stoked, bottom photo is my old 5/4, dental floss holding it together in 3 spots and a broken zipper. Also, I don't own a 4/3, I go right to a 3/ 2 hyperflex..( I only tried on the 4/3,when I put the 5/ 4 on Im paddling out! )huge man, if you ever come up, reach out. I owe you a solid brother.
Xcel has a new series Drylock X , excellent product . The O neil 5.5 techno butter feels like paddling in a 2 mil which makes it as a 2nd session dream .
Dude I didn't even cut off the legs when I was a penniless teenager lol. I would have been humiliated wearing it, except maybe @OBSD. But that place is Hobo Central
It's an O Neil Superfreak, got it from one of the shops brand new for 275, I thought it was a great deal and was my first O Neil. The zipper teeth started to come undone on their own by the end of the first season, I had it ready to ship to O Neil to see if they would fix it but more swell showed up so I kept using it. Kept using it last year, some days were better than others and this winter it was shot, sometimes I literally used big ass industrial safety pins to hold it shut. My kid has a couple of snow days right now but I expect this energy to hang around for a bit, can't wait to get out!!
Gotta respect a man who can... and does... keep his gear together himself... in this disposable First World mindset economy. Women have been doing it for a lot longer. DIY
