Hey guys, my buddy has a 20-30 year old barely used like 400 dollar body glove wetsuit that he gave me 2 peice overalls plus jacket im assuming its a 2 on the arms and legs but maybe a 4 where the 2mm chest panels and back panels overlap? I was just wondering if it would keep me warm down to like mid 50's water temp because i've never used it in water that cold.

did you say 20-30 years old? since i can't see it, and can only assume..the technology in wetsuits have made leaps and bounds in the past 10 years, newer suits are just better...more flex, better insulating materials...

...if your concerned about something lasting you into the mid-50's, personally I would pick up a good 3/2, which shouldn't run you more than about 200 bones...one with an attachable hood.

    My $.02.

Yeah it was like one of the best suits you could buy back then but newer suits are alot better. Ill probably try it out and if it gets chilly too fast ill just order a rip curl or oneal 3 2

I thought wetsuits were made of sheep's wool and raw hide back then?

In all seriousness, I think the farmer john will be far less flexible / enjoyable to wear than a new 100% stretch suit, but why not give it a shot first.

Farmer John's are designed to leak. Do as much as you can to avoid the flushing factor on a wetsuit.

Oh, i didn't know they were supposed to flush. It kept me toasty in 65 degree water but flushed everytime a wave would hit me in the midsection. Its extremely tight on me so it doesnt leak too bad but it does flush when waves hit certain areas, though when i went underwater didnt notice too much flushing

I wore gloves and boots with it which really helped to seal it better too

buy a new wetsuit. A good suit will improve your surfing a ton. And make it a hell of alot more enjoyable

My father used to say,''If you don't want to listen, you'll have to feel.'' He was a very wise man.

A 20-30 year old wetsuit belongs in a museum, not in the ocean!
The technology has advanced so much, you couldn't compare it to todays wetsuits.

The way you describe this 2 piece - overalls and top, it sounds like you are dealing with warm weather type suits?
But, hey, mine as well give it a go, and see how it works for you.

20-30 years old, bahahahahha! It may have been the **** back then, but it's **** compared to the $100 excels that whiskey militia keeps throwing up on their site!
try it, then buy a real one.
I'm sure you won't get made fun of in the lineup for that old suit too...

This is my neighbor's wetty. It's definitely from a good while back and in amazing shape since he preserved it well. The seams are pretty damn good for the era. When I get around to patching up my 4/3 with some neoprene tape and cement I'm doing the same to any of the weak spots in his. They are far and few between and this thing will function great for him. It even smells like neoprene still!!

A very wise man indeed. Great quote. And I've got a few people to pass it along to as well. My dad just said good luck dummy, drive yourself to the hospital.

Don't buy a 4mil, they are pointless. Get a 5 mil or consindering where you are maybe a 6 mil. But 4 mils are wastes for the mid atlantic and northeast.

Yeah it really isnt too water-tight. Ill use it as my summer/early fall suit but as soon as winter rolls around ill probably get a oneil epic or something

Sure isn't super stretch neoprene haha but its comfortable in mild water temps like 60's+, never gone below that with it but im sure it would get chilly. I'll just buy a 4/3 high quality oneal one when the time comes that i need it. I already got boots and gloves (Not 30 years old) that are new and 3mm. 3 mil is all you need unless your surfing some really cold ass water.
