Whenever I wear my wetsuit when i get home I have acne like bumps on my chest and back. I don't think its acne because it comes so quick and goes away quickly too. I'm wondering if it might be an allergic reaction or just a dirty suit, although i usually rinse it off every day or two of using it. Does anyone else have this problem and any tips on ideas what it might be or whats the best way to clean a wetsuit other than simply rinsing it.
you should def rinse all the salt water off after every use, then hang it somewhere shady. you might be putting it in the sun too long, which causes it to become almost hard or brittle, thus scratching up against your skin. as far as "washing" it goes, i like to wash mine every 6 or 7 uses, or if it starts to look dirty. make sure you handwash it and dont throw it in the washing machine. use dishsoap
Its not the suit you got the aids rinse everytime you use it and I use that cat 5 wetsuit cleaner aswell stuff works great
Go see the doc if you have insurance. There are all kinds of bacterial and fungal things that can accumulate on your body from wetsuits. The past couple of years, every fall, around september, I would noticed little spots on my shoulders and back. It looked like small little circles where I was peeling from a suntan... At first glance thats what i thought it was. Went and saw the doc and he told me it was a small something called "Blahb blah blah medical mumbo jumbo"... It was basically a "growth" (yes that sounds really nice) that was causes from the summer/fall heat and the bacteria etc in the water. So, basically the doc said that in Late august, my 3 mill becomes an incubator for random sea life etc.. So, doc gave me some pills. I took like a pill a day for a week and it went away. Same thing happened the next fall in a brand new wetsuit. Went back to the doc and got more pills... Still dont know what exactly it is. But a bunch of surfers told me all about what it was. They said they used to always get it back in the day down in Baja on long surf trips and they would get the antibiotic or pills in TJ on the way back up... Long story short... It probably has something to do with the water quality and the heat in your suit. Sounds similar to what I am talking about... I am sure there are like 2000 different kinds of skin irritations... If you have insurance, see the doc. He will hook u up.
even if you don't have insurance, go to the doc. it's better to be safe than sorry w/ crap like this (speaking from experience) & a lot of docs will throw you the free samples the pharm. company reps leave them if they know you don't have insurance. this scenario quite literally saved my life back in 2007.
i had something going on this past winter/spring whenever i wore my hood for a few days in a row i'd get these bumps under my skin - not acne, almost more like boils - wherever there were pressure points. ugly. they went away on their own and i haven't thought about it since but i hope to avoid it this winter. not sure, maybe just have to seriously rinse the hood after every session...
its definately not a rash.. but i dont think i need to go to the doctor because they go away on there own after a few days but thanks for the suggestion good to see its not just me haha.. I just soaked my suits in the bathtub with dish soap then hosed them off and now have them drying.. hope it killed the bacteria and what not.. thanks for the help guys
Try not to surf after a runoff, rinse suit after every session and wear a rashguard under your wetsuit.
It could be an alergic reaction to sea lice. google "sea bather's eruption" there has not been enough rain lately for any run off issues. My mom had a bad reaction to sea lice this week in bethany. Gold bond powder and benadryl gel....
If its not a rash then this stuff wont help but since its a rash type topic I'll throw this one to everyone. Surfed new board this weekend new wax super tacky and the back of my legs got rashed up good after 3 plus hours, well I had bought HeadHunters Rash gel and the initail burn on the rash was a suprise but was pain free the rest of the sesion about 2 hours more never wore off. Great stuff for the pits, wetsuit neck seal rash, etc. Board didnt get slippery either after having this on the back of mthighs but i did try to keep my board shorts between the wax and my legs to keep it form getting slick, but Head Hunters stuff isgood!
My 3/2 keeps giving me an indian burn on my neck. Looks like a hickey but feels like someone is shading a tattoo on my neck.
I use Ultra Body Glide. works great for every kind of rash. Protects the skin, doesnt hurt the wetsuit. Even works on preexisting rashes. Really helped this past weekend when I only needed boardies but forgot to wear my underarmor the first day of Igor. Ouch the first day No ouch the second day. I wear 4 way stretch boardies. I just heard about a new one. Using an ultra violet light will kill almost every kind of airborn fungie and mold. It may work on wetsuits as well.
I'm allergic to most neoprenes. It causes pimple looking bumps pretty much everywhere along with heat rash. Tried everything to prevent it at first; clothing inside, plastic liner, lycra, dive skins.... Recently bought the limestone based neoprene.... The everywhere rash went away, but still get the heat rash on my shoulders and under my arms..... A lot better then before. Thankful i got the 3mm, even though everybody was telling me to get a 4/5.... I might try some undershirts to prevent the heat rash and take my suit off immediately to keep the sweating to a minimum.
