What happened to the forecast this weekend ? Specifically, the forecast for Virginia Beach.. ? Because as of all week, and even through oh-dark-thirty on Saturday morning, the forecast on this website was for clean green & waist to better...and it was definitely NOT. Yah, yah, I get the stuck record "forecasting is not a given, is not guaranteed, is not absolute." I get that. However....when the forecaster calls for waist to better & improving conditions through Sunday, and the fact is that in VB it was knee high slop & did not improve by Sunday, my question is where is the accountability ? There were a few rides at 45th Street. That was it. I know this because I literally walked on the sandbars - - walked ! - - in the water from 58th down to 42nd. That's how flat today in VB was. Look....I respect the effort. But, people make plans & spend money, lots of money, to go surfing based on forecasts claiming to be from a perspective of expertise. I realize that people are going to go ballistic, tell me to move to the coast, shut up, or they will spew-regurgitate the above excuses in p. 3, but save your breath this time. If the forecast is botched, as it was this weekend, I'd like to see some accountability. Take credit & plenty of it when due. As well, take your bullet when it's your bullet.
the forecast for ocnj was about as spot on as you can get. if you want accountability, sign up for surfline. (which is no more accurate than swellinfo).
Forecast was spot on if not better for me in nj, This has been discussed time and time agian the forecast is just a tool for you to use like weather underground , Drtving and looking ect. What it forecast dont and cant account for is local wind direction and bottom contures of each location. And I will also say this agian Swellinfo provided us with his forecast, Forum and website for FREE . If you wanna complain that you wasted gas and money going to look for surf then maybe you should pay for surfline and when they are wrong you will actually have a reason to gripe
I hear you, but... and this is only my opinion... All, if not most surf forecasting is based on "interpretation" of given data. And we all know how data can be interpreted differently. This site is pretty dead on most of the time. One of the more accurate sites I've utilized. In fact, eyes on NJ did exactly what this site called for today. That said, nobody's perfect. I start here, but always check a few other resources before making a call on when and where to go. I guess you could say I "interpret" the data of a few sources myself.
yeah I agree this site is a tool to help us make out "own" minds on were to go. I check other weather sites and I the old fashion thing to and actually check a few spots before I make up my own mind
wait, you mean you have to actually look at the ocean to figure out what the surf is ACTUALLY doing?!?
1st street was fairly fun last night got there an hour before sun went down and every now and then some fun peaks would pop out.
yeah I actually loaded up my truck with my Quad and one of my logs got in the car and drove to various surf locations to see what was best. Made up my mind suited up and got my wetness on . It a old trick but it works
i know this might be wayyy to much effort for small brain wave man, learn to read weather maps and swell maps on your own. learn how pressure systems work and how they effect wind. instead of bashing someone who has designed a system to read and interpret data, learn to do it yourself. They did this way before the interent was merely a dream. and if you talked to the old heads they know what is going to happen and when it is going to happen. quit your *****in' and learn to do it yourself!
ha your a kook move closer , i went to 1st this morning around 7 it was super crowded and not quit as big as forecasted but it was waist and semi clean on the right board it was pretty fun . but whatever the fact you living in Arlington just proves your not really a surfer to start, job this and family that whatever your excuse surfing is a lifestyle not a hobby
It was 'ok' for the Saturday afternoon-evening low tide session, and me thinks the offshore winds were blowing all night and just reduced the size.
learn to read it your self and figure out on your own dont depend on the internet to tell you what mother nature is doing
Its a forecast man... Sometimes their wrong... I know it sucks, but you gotta take it as it comes... I went to Rodanthe today thinking i was gonna surf shoulder high barrels... Instead I sured maybe waist high wind swell with offshore winds blowing like 20 knots... It sucked, but Im not gonna go *****ing at Micha about it... I think most of the people that post these "*****ing" posts, don't realize that its pretty much 1 guy running the show, and that he does his best to give us an accurate forecast...
you gotta look at the swell maps. i live in monmouth county and the forecast will say its gonna be big and the swell map says otherwise, and ive noticed the map being more correct than the forecast (well it's still technically the forecast, just not the one we usually look at). i need to look at that because we literally get the same report as seaside and most people in NJ know that if it's south of monmouth county, it's usually bigger
Sorry to hear that. Now I'm glad I chose yesterday. It was as forecasted and fun. Rodanthe has a tendency to turn into completely vertical walls of water before even 10 knots. 20's just crazy!
