Oh man...most revered LBCrew, now I feel like a cock for being snarky...but here's my take.

First, let me explain my snarky comment...a whilst back, aboot a week ago, whilst talking aboot cannabis, the subject of naturally occurring plant based psychedelics came up. And a comment was made that reflected nothing but ignorance, misunderstanding, and lack of experience. It was along the lines of, "well, weed's my medicine, mushrooms/cacti/et al. are stupid". Something along those lines. Anywho, therein lies the irony.

While music is subjective and Tool can be ambiguous, this song is clearly about the psychedelic experience, and anyone who has their feet in the current psych. community(for lack of a better term) knows that.

"Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
    lets me see.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see there is so much more
and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving opportunities behind.

Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

I embrace my desire to, I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected
enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired, to fathom the power,
to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral, to swing on the spiral,
to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human.

With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in.
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out.
I'm reaching for the random or whatever will bewilder me.
    Whatever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

    Spiral out. Keep going... "

I mean, the whole fkn thing applies but imho what's in bold hits the nail on the head for anyone who's been there.

Now, I talk a lot of funny stuff on here. And I don't mean I'm funny, I mean like boners and vasectomies, tubes, boobs, and doobs, etc. But make no mistake about it, I treat these chemicals as sacraments, and use them sparingly. They might not be for everyone, but they deserve respect and have great potential to do many things. Like The recent UCLA study where terminally ill cancer patients came to terms with their own deaths after treatment with psilocybin. Or the Johns Hopkins study, with about 150 ppl size sample, all first timers...the results of that are even more impressive imho.

The participants of the study discussed in The Spirit Molecule(book not movie, Rogan's wearing me out a bit), had shirts made that said "you can be atheist until .4" or something like that.
