saw them play live while everyone including the audience were in bubbles. got this album when going to record stores was something to do. "Uh-oh. I think this is college music." "Yeah. You can tell because that dude has orange hair. You can also tell it's college music because it's like...they're in a field." "Yeah. Fields suck!"
Been listening to The Replacements a lot lately... reaching back into the annals of '80s Punk Rock History. Their first records were straight up punk... then they became more commercial and radio friendly. Still good tunes, though.
I am geeking out on the new Mr Bungle album. I grew up on thrash metal, among other musical influences, and this is awesome. They brought in Scott Ian from Anthrax and Dave Lombardo from Slayer (hands down my favorite drummer of all time). Yes.
This came on on my drive home from surfing today. In case you were on Military Cutoff Rd around 2:15 this afternoon, that was me yelling this song out my van window.
The first time I heard the song "Seasons in the Abyss" by Slayer it clicked for me that Dave Lombardo was as good a metal drummer as it gets. He's not my favorite drummer of all time, but he might be a close second to Bill Bruford.
I followed a couple of his other bands just because of his drumming, Strapping Young Lad and Fantomos (another project with Mike Patton). I saw a movie not long ago called Beware Mr Baker about Ginger Baker that was great. I always liked Cream but didn't really get the hype about Baker until I saw this. The guy is a nut along the level of Ozzy or Lemmy, great doc. amazing drummer.
Masters of Reality, with Ginger Baker on drums. Great 80s - 90s band from upstate New York that managed to get Ginger to play with them for a few years. They, and he, were amazing.
