About to finish up one of my 1 year + builds. I did an awful job glassing the first time and ran out of resin so it's lacking the hotcoat and fins. I'll be glassing the fins on for the last time but I can't decide what to put on this board. Leaning towards a quad, not against trying a bonzer but I don't think its really applicable to this board, I've been really enjoying twin fins too lately. The board is 6'x23" and 3" thick. I'm 6'1" and 215lbs. I'm going to take the suggestions and get the closest thing from this site www.blendingcurves.com
Oh yeah it has a small concave in the front to flat and probably a little too much V in the tail. I'm interested in the size of the fins too.
Fun looking board! Looks like a nice candidate for a quad. I'd imagine getting the cant (is that the propperre term?) right for a bonzer might be tough but idk. My bonzer is about that size and shape, less thickness though.
Thanks PA! I suffer from paralysis by analysis. I've foiled out some controller type fins but I don't like how they look on the board. I'm leaning towards a quad.
I wouldn't go bonzer. Love bonzers, but the Campbell brothers have the art dialed in. I'd imagine it wouldn't be the same as a DIY. And hard as hell. Could potentially end up ruining the whole board. If your dead set on glass ons, I'd say go quad. Looks like a quady board. I personally perfer thrusters over quads though so there's another option. I agree that putting boxes in would be your safest and most versatile bet. I love me some single fins too. Now that is something to consider. Board looks like it would be fun and diffrent as a single. That's my vote.
23" wide? Is that right? My noserider is 23"wide. I have a similar shape as an everyday board. it's 6' by 20" but same outline. It's a quad and I found real big honkers but not controllers up front with real small fins in back work great in a lot of conditions. or you can go crazy and put half moons on there. http://www.andrewkidman.com/surfboards/dreamboard/
Have you considered Simmons style keels? I'd go wood, glassed on, modified half moon keels, slightly toed and canted. Otherwise... a quad setup.
Please tell me there's a cure .... As far as the fins go, if you're set on glass-ons, looks like a twinner to me. I've been loving Quadlife lately but I find the hold is too much for those skatey check turns on small waves. Then again I've been loving it backside, and I basically only surf backside... Your best bets are probably: 1) Listen to LBCrew 2)Flip a coin
I like where your heads are at. I've been enjoying the half moons on this board. I've shown the controller concept too. I think there is too much vee in the back to go controllers though. Leaning towards the twin/half moons. Btw, I weighed these boards. The current project is 12.3 lbs the Other one in the pic is 23.4 lbs. for reference, I have a sharpeye "the sole" that weighs in a little over 9 lbs.
You're right. The clamps are in the wrong direction for proper placement. Gonna place the front tips of the fin at the "hip" of the tail where it pulls in a little. Tail @ 1' is 18" it pulls in to about 10". Nose @ 1' is 19ish"
Gaff, Bass, Slash... I'm married to glass-ons for this board only. Next build will have the infrastructure to support fin boxes.
tails pretty wide, so I'd go quad. Since you're going glass-on, any standard upright quad set should do for the most range...I'd only go controller/keel if this board was only going to be ridden in the smallest/weakest crap
Thanks LBC! Cabinet grade. Single foiled primarily with a slight rounding on the inside. I can't wait to get them on the board.
