Just some interesting read http://news.yahoo.com/forecasters-hurricane-season-2013-is-no-bust--172031149.html
"Don’t ever drop your guard until we’re through September,” says Sinclair, who owns the waterfront Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar in Carolina Beach, N.C. “Now through September is when the bigger ones really start flying off the hook." CB made the news! Great article, Zeroevol!
Should have said Don't drop your guard until we are through October, ie. Sandy. September is when we get Cape Verde Storms. October is when we see the giant hybrid - tropical/frontal systems, ie. Sandy. October is my favorite month to be a Mid Atlantic Surfer. We generally see at least one big hybrid system each Fall.
I remember getting my rear end kicked by Wilma in 06. She was a backdoor storm that came off the Yucatan as a Cat 4 in late October. It went over the south part of the state as a Cat 1, picked up steam over the swamps, and the backside of the eye wall was nasty. It hit here on October 26 as a Cat 1 or 2. When did Hugo obliterate Charleston in the 90s? I think that was early October. Then we get the superstorms in late October, like the Halloween swell ( 1 , 2, and Sandy ). That combined with lots of football makes it the best time of year - as long as you are not the one in the cone of death.
