In spirit of the "Gas Prices" thread and the cost of fuel predicted to go up during the summer, when most of us do a lot more driving for surf day trips, post-work sessions and other activities.

What kind of car do you drive? Gas mileage? Good surf mobile? Upgrade or downgrade in the future?

    2011 335d

425 foot pounds of torque and 25-35 MPG- I like to think of it as a "poor man's M3"

4runner. couldn't have a better "surf mobile" other than the fact it guzzles gas. it's great, esp in the winter. i'll change in it on really cold days.

I drive a white VW rabbit. it has a roof rack and basket for tossing things up top and im good to go. its a 5 cyl. motor so it gets ok gas mileage closer to 30MPG but its a 2.5l and very fun to drive..

maybe in the future i will find myself a old vw caddy pickup with a turbo diesel swap. 50+ MPG!

FJ 62. Gas mileage varies because the tranny needs some love, but average 10-12. Saving up to do either an Isuzu or Cummins 4 cyl turbo diesel swap with a 5 spd manual. Can't wait to get 28 mpgs on the highway rolling on 35" tires and a 3" lift.

I ride my bike a lot.

2001 Honda Accord, slow, but great gas mileage, fits boards well. Ill prolly get a 2010-11 subaru wrx hatch next whenever they drop in price. Turbo hatchbacks FTW.

Daily Driver is a Prius (50mpg highway), but I have an '05 Wrangler Unlimited (avg 18 mpg) for the weekends. I partly keep the Wrangler so I don't have to kick my own a$s for driving a Prius.

I drive a Honda Element, with gets about 18/23 mpg. Good for surfing and trips, and hauling crap. Don't really care that it looks like a box on wheels.

just picked up a Yamaha R6. Tis the season! $12 worth of premium and she if full. That lasts about 180 miles. Now I have to figure out how to get a board on it. Maybe I can fab up some beach cruiser style side racks lol yeah.

Drove one of these and it hauls ass compared to my TDI Jetta. Drove one for 2 days- only got to 120ish and still had plenty left in it.

    My rides:
For work- 2011 VW TDI Jetta...38-52 MPG depending on how I drive...at least 50k miles / year

2004 VW Touareg V8- Gets terrible mileage, but I love driving it.

The new body (2012) F30 3 series will have a high MPG 4 cyl. turbo diesel available this year (hell the new 328i gets 24-36 and up to 43 mpg). BMW was aware of an indirect correlation between performance (mostly acceleration) and North American sales as the slowest BMW ever sold in this market was also the poorest seller (the dreaded 318ti). They also wanted to shatter the diesel myths: noisy, dirty and SLOW; that led to the decision to put the big diesel in the 3 series when they reintroduced diesel BMWs to N.A.

I sold VWs from 2002-2008. 04 V8 Touregs were really problematic- hope you haven't had much trouble with yours.

I ride a 2007 Kawasaki KLX 250s dual sport and have a surf rack that mounts to the rear rack. It's great on gas...average about 65-70 mpg. My wife drives our VW Golf.

Gas is up to 4.30 on average for regular in san diego.

My driveway looks like a used car lot lately...

-2005, and 2009 His and Hers Honda Accords. Both Manual 4cyl, both get 29-35 MPG...I've had 4 accords in a row. Amazing cars. Boring, but great transportation.
-2009 Honda Odyssey. Just bought. so far 20-23 MPG on on first 3 tanks of gas.
-1998 Mazda B3000 pickup. Gas mileage is crap, maybe 15, can't get stuck in traffic or the clutch acts up, and I leave an oil trail everywhere I go. But...it's good in the snow.

Lee, if you get more than 130 miles/tank before the light comes on, you're not riding it right ;)

'08 subaru outback. it's the best. i can fit several shorties in the back, roof rack for anything bigger. solid gas mileage, average around 25-30 but with coaxing i can keep it over 30. Plus, it's fun to drive, outstanding utility for its size, super reliable, can more than hold its own offroad, and once you get over the fact that it's a wagon, i think it looks pretty dern cool.

I wish Honda would make a 4-dr civic hatch to compete with the Focus/Matrix/Mazda3. I had an Accord v6 coupe before, and I came to the conclusion that I will never need anything more powerful than the 244hp that it had.
