I think Clemson has it right, probably a bluefish.

yeah, there's a lot of critters out there. I've been bitten by a small barracuda and a small caiman in these waters.

Those fish I saw in the shallows do resemble the google image of Bluefish, maybe you all are right about that!

Great you got out FLSURFDOG -- I had heard today and Wednesday might be good-- nice to know y took advantage of it! Thanks for the report :) and there's no guards there Tues and Wednesdays, so you could pretty much surf wherever yu wanted :)

Bluefish are saltwater piranha. I have scars on my arm from them hitting me while paddling out to prove it.

Ouch-- How bad is the foot. Watch out for infection since it's the foot, take care of it really good to keep it clean.

Sorry bro, me and my buddy saved 3 of those stupid m'fers up at Fish Haul the other day. They were all trapped in the rocks as the tide drained out... Thought I was doing nature a favor...

What did you get tore up on, the spine on the shell or the tail? I thought the only harm they could do is if the get upside down and pinch you. The tails don't pack any punch right?

Had some pirahna's in a restaurant of mine. Those things were insane to watch. And boy, we would feed them and it was like a massacre in the tank. Creepy fu**ing fish.

You definitely were(doing nature a favor)...they're not that plentiful to my knowledge. Seen them come back to life after being frozen solid, pretty bad ass.

But sorry about your foot blasters, they are spiny critters. You guys know why they have they long spine? Not to hurt you, it's to flip themselves over if they end up on their backs(at least according to biologists).

Funny that you mention that, because the first one we saw, my buddy was like man, is it dead. I lifted it a little and poked it and was like, nah man, he's dead... Like 10 minutes later I hear the things start moving around... I was like, okay, lets toss him....

The first thing I asked him was about the tail and he said exactly what you did. That it is not used for defense or to sting, but rather to flip itself over. We tossed it in the shallows and it took about 30 seconds, but it flipped with its tails... gnarly looking things.

Hells yeah, super ancient too. We used to use them for winkle bait on the boat I worked on(a few years back, I don't think you can anymore), and the ones that came back to life from the freeze I'd throw overboard, when the captain wasn't looking of course.

It just was teaching someone to surf swimming then throw my feet down right on the damn thing.it goes nuts runs into my other leg then I pull my feet up then back down on some really sharp part of the crab. Just like a quarter size cut but nice and deep. No biggie but to much blood in the water for me. Out of all the times I've stepped on them nothing like this has happend he was out for blood. Hell I'll grab them I'm the water and pull them out some times.
