Hey everyone, I would say that I am a novice surfer. I'm nearly 5'9, and I weigh aobut 140lbs. I live in North Carolina where the surf is typically 1ft-3ft, occasionally 5ft+. I currently ride a 6'1 flyer, but I know I can go much shorter. My friend has a CI dumpster diver that he loves. I have also heard great things about the CI neck beard. I would trade in my flyer to get a new board. Anyone have experience with both these boards? How do they stack up to each other? Which one would be best for me to get, given the conditions I listed above? I was looking at a 5'6 beard, or 5'6 dumpster. Let me know what you guys think. I am also open to other board suggestions. Thanks a lot!
Check out the Sasquash at www.solidsurfco.com It's pretty much all I surf in those conditions. Super fun, nice and snappy but plenty of push in small waves. Also the Sling Blade... it has a kick tail just like a skateboard. Good luck!
I surf a 5'10 CI Fishcuit and a 5'10 bottom feeder from Lost. I am 6'2 200lbs and i live in new york and love these boards. Perfect amount of float and and girth without sacrificing maneuverability. I personally would recommend either one of these if you are surfing the small mush. I also surfed the Lost board at a 5-6ft day during winter and it held up perfectly. Hope this helps dude
Personally I woud heavily reccomend either the plank, uber plank, or bottom feeder from lost. I have a plank and I can easily catch shin high slop onn it, yet can also do full roundhouses and throw tail in larger surf...the small wave boards from lost are very versitile.
get a log. i was out surfing yesterday in 1.5ft medium period swell. Long soft lines. I was catching them with ease and styling all the way to the beach. My buddy, admittedly a better surfer than I, was out on his neck beard "groveling". He would get up, make a pump or two, maybe hit the little baby lip, then sink. I had more fun. I got way more waves. I even hit more lips.
