Common sense, if you ask where I should surf or if I should surf today, you are going to get heckled! Esp on here! We are men and we don't let good opportunity pass!
The only time I would ask about specific breaks on this site is if I was going on a trip ... far away... and lookin for some friendly advice but anyone who asks about local breaks and whatnot needs to get shi.t talked for being a dumbass
What the hell - fits perfectly I would NEVER recommend a local break to anyone in a forum on the internet. Its different talking one on one to somebody but to put your break in a forum is nuts unless you want to pack the line up which probally will be with mostly kooks. Same goes with fishing - you gonna post your secret hole on the internet ?? Do your homework and earn the knowledge ! And if you need someone to tell you when to surf - PLEASE, do us a favor - post your junk on Craigs List and stay out of the water. GOT IT - GOOD....
well its bad enough when local surf shops push certain spots, so if you happen to surf that spot, you can count on having new kooks and tourists at your spot every week. its even worse when they post those spots online for everyone to see...
around here, the only spots being pimped out by the shops to non-locals are the spots that the entire world already knows about anyway. spots that are "official" surfing beaches in the summer & that are so well known no one w/ any experience surfs them during the middle of the day b/c the spots are so congested w/ kooks & wanna-bes. nothing is lost or gained by that. well, you've hit on a bit of a problem there...no one wants to work to earn knowledge anymore. they want (& think they have the right) to have it NOW. i believe that this is why things like pop-outs are so popular...it's all part of our "fastfood culture".
lol this is getting a little bit out of hand. theres way to much hostility in the water anymore. I was the one that posted "Should i go surfing today?". But thats only cause i wanted some feedback. Not secret breaks, or where its gonna be good? All i asked is do you think the casino pier will be good. I'm sorry if i blew that spot up, but i didnt think the pier was such a hush hush spot. My bad. You guys really need to chill out. Way to much hate out there. I'm not very good at surfing yet, but i do catch my fair share, and i have respect for the people in the water. Did you hear that?? RESPECT. So if I'm a kook whats that make you guys?? Assholes?? Cause you sure as f*ck don't understand anything about surfing by the way your all talking. The ocean belongs to knowone. It is not your own personal playground. You don't have any say on who surfs. Even if they are surfing "your" local break. Cause it was never really yours to begin with. F*ckin KOOKS! ............Nough said.
so the guys out in Hawaii who are quite militant about us mainlanders surfing their spots are kooks? I'm gonna go out on a limb and amicably disagree....localism has its place in surfing. I'm not saying be a jerk (and if what you say about respecting spots is true then more power to you) but if SOMEONE isn't out there regulating, it ruins the fun for everyone.
If that were true, you wouldn't be talking about it. I don't think you understand, and your noob/idealistic view shows that. You may not like it and you may not agree with it, but that is the way it is. Yes, it would be great if everybody got along and shared and blah blah blah But, generally that's just not the way it works
Idsmash: My first post got murdered on this forum. Its the way of things. The first guy who called me a kook on here made my blood boil. Now its whatever, I surf every swell and everyone that I actually give a **** abut knows that im no kook. Now I just laugh it off and return the compliment. Everyone snapped on you because you are not the first one to post up the "should I surf today". Every time it ends the same...The bottom line is that no one cares if you surf today (insert choice insult x20). Everyone is such an internet hero these days, just take it for what it is, damn funny. You got heckled by someone who uses a gay fetish trick as a screen name. How seriously can you take it? "Pura vida ****heads"
I definatly agree that you need people regulating or **** goes bananas ...my one buddy has lived up in rockaway for 2 yrs after growing up on lbi and the scene is so filled with kooks with no respect/knowledge for the rules in the water ... needless too say he has been regulating tough up there and everytime I venture up there you need someone *****ing at all the ****ing kooks who take the subway from manhattan and surf ... I was surfing there in november and some kook actually died because he just paddled out completely in a spot where anyone with a slight idea of surfing wouldn't of paddled out @ ...it sucks he died but its natural selection at its finest ...
See thats the problem in the Line -Ups in todays surfing . There is not peckin order at all , I recall growing up as a young grom is you didnt respect the Hierarchy in water you were taken back into reality in a heart beat. Now a days media along with Nike , target and any other company suckin surfing dry has turned it from a life style into novelty. People paddle out with what the media deems as cool and they think they instatantly deser respect and the ocean is everyones playground WRONG!!!!! If you dont know what u are doing out in the water take a few lessons , Learn the rule and respect the seasoned surfers out in the water. When you dont know what you are doing you are putting everyone around you and the safety at risk and yours aswell
i know at my spot you gotta respect the hierarchy. i had to show my respect and talk it up with the long time surfers and then they started letting me get the set waves and have me move up in the pecking order. and trust me ive used that power on ppl and hated using it but the older locals they get the laughs out of it cuz the kooks try and out do me even the uncw kids try and out do me a local that has been living in nc for my whole life and i always win the paddle battles and if someone has the balls to drop in me they will most certainly get a nice leash grab so they know im back there and then the older guys that look after me they give those ppl the talk.
OK...First, Localism has its place in Hawaii because the waves can kill you. Mistakes at breaks like Pipe can leave you or other people seriously injured which was the reason for the creation of the Dai Hui. They got sick of mainlanders regulating sh*t. On the other hand, Jersey has NOTHING to do with that scene, hence, all the localism talk is bullsh*t. 95% wouldn't back up a damn thing. People like to talk, talk, talk...and for the most part those guys aren't surfing. Rather they are "regulating" getting on EVERYONE'S nerves. Now, I am an advocate for corrections, kooks need to be corrected but localism in Jersey is just gay. Anytime I encounter "locals" I let my surfing do the talking, that usually shuts their mouths. To the original poster, stop being so damn sensitive! If your that soft, I don't know if surfing is for you.
See thats where I dont agree . Yeah Pipe is way more extreem than NJ and Localism is needed there to maintain order. But you have just a good a chance at getting hurt or killed here on the Eastcoast as you would in the islands or Westcoast. Go Surf the Sticks at Rock or Poverty in Cape May . You dropin on someone there or just paddle out without and experience you and the People around u are at risk. Far Localims in NJ being gay I am sorry you paddle out in my break drop in on ppl ditch your board and show know respect . I have had verabal battles in my younger years it got physical at times. Mostly in this day in age its not worth getting locked up over cause most of the ppl acting like Donkeys in the water are all cop calling punks anyways. If it happens to me once I let it go , Twice I give some friendly advise , Third time I tell them to get out of the water and not come back out til they learn to follow the rules. If all else fails give them a peice of there own medicne and they learn real quick
WOW, this was just a general post about people asking if they should surf today.... I think localism should be strong, but if you get an out of towner who respects pecking order ANYWHERE, give the respect back. I used to visit the rents in San Diego all the time, it was easy to pick the locals, I respected them and they respected me. As far as kooks, all of us started somewhere! I guess this is where the respect factor comes in to play. I am in DE, and I talk to a bunch of you guys, but if I come to NJ, I am still going to respect the local guys who surf there everyday! My suggestion, lets all get churros! They are delicious!
