Yeah some older loggers are just d*cks. I will never go to Kona in Wildwood due to a run-in with their owner who thought he was a bad@ss one day. He learned different :)

The other problem group are the laxerbros with the puka shells and shiny new Merricks who think they are immune to the etiquette rules.

I don't have any trouble with the lax crowd, but the older guys think they can talk down to me. I actually had some knobjob from Allenhurst yell at me when he dropped in on me, with an idiotic "why are you coming towards me" look on his face. He probably bought his board brand new at Spells for $1000 and then told his wife to take pictures of him breaking it in.

yeah those types do suck. Even worse are then ones who get their whole family boards and lessons then invade a break. last summer a group like that showed up at our normal spot and the dad had a log and he kept ditching. my buddy got a wave and was paddling back out when the guy ditched and his board and it caught my buddy in the face. He was pissed and just beat the crap out of the guy. I saw them a few weeks later at an uncrowded spot.

Ditching is one of the worst offenses in my opinion. Its basically like, well I don't want the board hitting me so I'll just let if fly off and possibly nail someone else.

Yeah the common thread among most true kooks is a serious disregard for others, they only care about their own surfing experience.

    it's not personal!

surfing doesn't mean we are all alike. it doesn't mean we have to hold hands and encourage each other on. that is so gay! surfing doesn't make rules for who is civilized and who is not. if you want to surf, then you go surf. if you want to make friends go to match.com and stop crying. surfing is what it is. the act of riding waves, not who is being happy and gay. some people like to get pissed and rip the face off of a wave. some like to get soft and glide with a beaver tail. no where, anywhere does it say I have to paddle out and get all gay. thread over.

Yeah I have had my run in with him too . He his board was no match form my Cooperfish Melo Yellow. I was in the Crest and he kept droping in on me . I hollard a cpl time hey coming threw l thinking maybe he didnt see me.
I just didnt wanna run the guy over and destroy his board . Next wave I got I didnt even give him a heads up. I just kept going as he droped in or tired too I gave him a Micky Dora style shuv and he fell off his board and I ran his board over with mine and kept going. He had a nice gash in his board from my fin. My board didnt even have a scratch. LOL He was piss gave me the finger and tried to make me pay for his board. I told him to go take another once of his Chanllanger Pop out off the shelf and learn some etiquette.

He stormed off and I never had a issue with him again

Pretty much the same story for me but in N Wildwood. Maybe you ran him out of the Crest. I shoved him off but didn't run his board over. he followed me out of the water and tried to play the bad@ss. Not a smart move. It never came to blows but it got really close but i think he sobered up and realized I wasn't going to back down and would kick his @ss if he escalated so he stormed off. To this day I still say 'hi' to him just to piss him off.

I agree 100%. I also know the guy from Kona - not personally but I see him at the beach or in his shop. Normally he's out early in the morning - always on a Challenger. Never had any problems with him but in conversation I sense a big ego. Kona is "Pop Out Heaven" with some higher end pop outs.

As far as the older guys go - Most of the ones I know have been around for a long time, a lot longer than most of us. They are not disrespectful or kooks. I have learned quite a bit from them and am pretty stoked they are still out there. Hopefully we can last as long as them. I think the guys you are talking about are the ones with the mid life crisis and the beer belly toting the new younger wife along riding a big foamy or a BIC. There are a couple of dudes who surf North Wildwood who fit that description. They usually show up around 12:00 regardless of conditions with an umbrella, cooler, radio, frisbee, chairs etc in tow. By then I'm usually gone anyway. In regards to logs I guess I'm guilty. My shortest board is an 8.0 and longest 10'6". I'm usually the farthest one out - I don't hog waves and I never ditch. Longboarders get a bad rap - I don't care what anybody rides as long as their safe and courteous. Surfing is supposed to be fun - No time for road rage on the water but it does happen. Whew, I'm done. Have a great night !

I have surf N. Wildwood alot on the summer well almost every weekend or when I have off. Its easy to take the Family there and get in some water time. There are alot of kool older heads that longboard there. Some are from Pa but they have been living or spend summer at wildwood way before I was even born

there's this one long boarder that surfs at deal and he just drops in on everybody and then yells at you for dropping in. i said something to him and then after that someone told me he used to put people in the trunk of his car if they were bothering him while he was surfing. im glad he doesnt do that anymore

the old guys are in the water are always nice, but i don't like when someone is trying to have a conversation with me in the water, especially when i'm see a good wave coming. i wont mind a conversation when its not that good out, but i'm looking to surf hard when it's fun, and dont talk to strangers but will give the head nod if someone looks over at me. When the lineup is full of people better than me that i dont know, then i act more like a hard ass and dont really say anything, and act like im just as good as they are. I guess all together i'm pretty serious when i'm out there unless i'm just with all my friends.
I'm never the one to strike up a conversation with a random person, but if someone says something to me i'm not going to totally ignore them.

i'm not the most social person as in i don't initiate conversations with people. i kinda keep to myself when i show up alone, but if someone says hi, or starts chatting i'll politely converse.

There's no reason to hate on what someone else does for fun, unless it's blatantly self-destructive or endangering others...

As for longboarders and SUPs, I have no animosity and I really believe they have their place inthe lineup. It's just the dudes that think they have the right of way EVERY TIME because of their paddling ability that I can't handle. That's not fair nor is it the way of the water. You have to respect the edge you have and let some waves get through further inside for those with limited paddle power. I have this problem around the 40s streets in VB. Even if you're closest to the peak, guys outside on SUPs will snake the shoulder and act like its their wave.
This kind of kookery must end.

I had a guy this past year older guy paddle towards the shoulder out of the take of spot ont he wave and then pull one of those paddle straight down the line while getting hit by white water takeoffs. Then he flips out because I was in his way I thought he was paddling for the shoulder to go around the thing. He flips out on me I flip out back. After exchanging f yous we went out seperate ways. ten minutes later the guy comes over almost in tears and says he is really really sorry his father inlaw just died that day and he never should have snapped he wasn't even thinking he was gonna go for that wave. So just remember you have no clue whats going on in someones head.
