Best board you've ever owned? Why?

G&S Magic Rounded pintail. Extremely versatile board--small or large waves, tubes or rounded waves, fast when needed, slow when needed. Very maneuverable. Love it in larger waves.
I have had it for 12 years now; still in great shape. It will be the last board I get rid of when I am done with surfing (5 +/- years from now).

I have yet to experience the feeling of a brand new board.i get my boards used and they are usually in terrible shape,i have to patch up a bunch of holes and stuff.but for the record my 6'2 coyle(yea I never heard of it either) has served me well over the years.the board probably weighs like an ounce, seems like it would be a good board to do airs with but I'm not there yet lol.i had that 6'2 since 2007 and its been threw hell and back

It was a 6'2" and almost 3" thick squash tailed Natural Art thruster called The Shape. It was an early thruster, maybe the 3rd one I owned, back in the mid 80s so I was in my mid 20s and could surf better than I can now, so maybe that's why I have fond memories of it. It would get you in early, and would go fast and make sections and turn on a dime, in big surf and small. Before that, twin fins were too drifty, single fins were too stiff, and the first tri fin I got was a learning process, different sweet spot, different stance. So there were a lot of factors in making that one really stand out in my mind.

It took my surfing where I wanted it to go.

I have owned quite a few boards. In the beginning it didn't matter what you got out on but when you learn to surf your board becomes your favorite on surf that let's it shine.
There's a lot of good boards and shapers.Because I don't do this professionally Ive narrowed it down to four .. 5'10/4 6'3/3 6'8/3 9'0/1. They are all my favorites, using 6'3 most, shhhh...I like them and all see waves whenever possible.

    Wow! Great thread 4th person!

    Seriously- interesting and about surfing!

I had a few- hard to say just one:

Ashton 6channel bottom shortboard - I forget the dims but the board flew! It was so fast and responsive- never really understood the channels until I had one! I ended up snapping that board some time ago. Now I have a Byrne (the original) 6 channel board! I love it- but not as much as the Ashton since it's a surftech. If done properly the channels make you feel like your riding on ball barring with no limit for speed.

Had a 6'1 Natural something or other... Single fin double concave wave awesome!! Loved that board too...

9'6 Jed Noll custom pintail. This board glided into any wave like noting. Worked great in any wave and nose ridden amazing! Still have it but it's old and beat up after years of use... The lines still look just right tho...

10'4 Jim Phillips VanVelzy - need I say anything more?? This board is a dream for a longboard!

    Dear Barry-

Why are you abandoning the sport of surfing in 5 years? Or is it just a seasonal thing??
