Dude I got a sour ass the other day too! No but seriously I did. I don't count it as an injury but it must've been a really funny sequence for anyone watching...I was surfing some waist high mushburgers, took a late drop, pumped down the line and made a nice section and as it closed out I popped off the lip with some good speed. It was probably the most air I've ever gotten (which isn't saying much - my leash pulled taut, so 6 ft.), and went totally horizontal looking straight at the sky...and proceeded to fall flat on my ass directly on my board. I couldn't have lined it up better if I tried, head at the tail, feet at the nose. I rolled off my board groaning and paddled back out, making sure no on was pointing and laughting at me... I'm lucky I didn't break my board or my ass. I got a chuckle out of it, despite my sour ass. Thought you guys might too!
The whole first day of snowboarding is sour ass. Unless you prefer to fall forward and then you have the dental acuity of those below the Mason-Dixon. Mr. Pink, the soggy shore at Horseneck's not treating you kindly? When Francis Buxton is up in our Bay State in a couple weeks, we should sent him to that breakless beach in Duxbury that's been closed down for most of the summer so those birds can mate. Who referenced the anticipation of the panda's mating in The Legend of RB the other day? Great ref. Anywayz, those white-collars in Duxbury were none too happy they were out something like $100 for their on-beach parking privileges til July 15th or so. Biotching about only getting a month and a half of parking on the beach!!! ACK style. So hard, so hard. Would love to let the air out of my mudders and pull up on the sand every day with the quiver in the bed. Hard mother truckers. When we charging ACK? Ferry's on you, fireworks and Triple-8 vodka's on me.
Side of the head? Rough brah. I've had so many stitches (and staples) from contact sports, MMA training, fights in high school, and falling into a door threshold in a college blackout only to wake up with my head stuck to the pillow a la Massive Headwound Harry (Dana Carvey SNL from small kid time). What pisses me off is when they all heal up too well and I'm not left with any cool scars. Not the kind that make you look disfigured and people look at you horrifically for the rest of your days, but the kind that chicks think are sexy and they ask you what it's from. Even in the northeast, the land of "don't come up and talk to me you creep, unless you're buying me a drink, then you can talk to me until the bartender gives me the drink", chicks can and will approach you to ask you the origin of valor if you've got a cool facial scar.
Gnarl. I'm way more academically read in physio than anatomy, so I've got questions. That's a weird one, zrich. And a painful one I'm sure. Did you get an MRI or did the ortho diag it based on ROM tests and pain at different points? Hope you are all good now. This is interesting to hear because I've had chronic shoulder injuries from other sports with several dislocations and subluxations (partial dislocate) due to labral and minor ligament damage. However, paddling and most all of surfing has seemed to reinforce the whole shoulder region for me and I'm pain free now. Jiu jitsu has always helped it as well, surprisingly since you'd think drilling kimuras and Americanas would be ripping it apart. The only time I've got nervous about hurting my shoulder again surfing is wiping out the wrong way and it's also not great to hold your board loosely in front of you when standing in the knee or waist-high water walking out as whitewater can come in and smack that board hard and your arms will go with it. That's a crazy injury brah, while I've heard of scapula breaks and every shoulder joint injury possible, seems like you got hit in the wrong way at the wrong time. What was the name of the tendon if you recall? Glad you're good now!
This is true, got a nice one over my left eyebrow from a brawl back in high school, good times, good times...
Yah brah, that's EXACTLY what I was talking about. Seems those always happen perfectly at that 45 degree angle like the dude in the original 90210. You should've went to HS in Cali SUPer! I guess if you risk losing an eye, you may as well should get the benefit of one of the preferred scars. I've split my brow open a couple times in different spots but my saintly Mom is a nurse and she'd always butterfly stitch it up right away. The key is keeping it less stitched for a few days and just gluing it shut so that the skin doesn't heal right but you don't get infection.
Yeah man, it was me on 4, it was all good till I got blind sided, split just above the brow, in the temple region (as it were) and parallel to the brow in almost the exact shape, never got stiches. Also got one just like it on the inside of my left knee too, from my skate board getting stuck in it launching from a huge stair case, right to the bone / cartilage, again no stiches, both still look pretty fresh 15-17 years later.
