probably not as far as I first thought...roads keep improving there. so what is the story on the boards...are they flying for the usual $75 each way? did they expect it to stay this way?
Large item embargo into SJO. They told me that people bring tons of large items back from the states and SJO can't handle that. of course this was announced five days before my flight. The got us on a flight to Liberia for less money and waived the board fees. It is 75 each way regularly.
Interesting. Wonder wtf is going on, because UA emailed me 3 days prior to my DCA-LIR flight to say that there was a 'seasonal embargo on large items from LIR outbound.' I was gonna bring my favorite 10' longboard; didn't want to risk being told at LIR 'lo siento senor.' I called UA & was told be supervisor-level drone that there was no embargo; even when I read him the email & quoted it from UA's website, he insisted "no embargo." There are many people in this world whose role it is to be professional misinformation dispensers, and a lot of them work for the airlines.
And btw, I've never seen as many drug dogs & USDA dogs during my transit through IAH. As well, tightened gate security in the form of people getting pulled out of line during boarding & having bags opened & inspected by CR security personnel.
I'm consdering Barbados in January, actually. I wanna do Rincon, but I also wanna go somewhere I haven't been before. It's also gotta be a convenient flight out of New York (preferably Newark) or Philly at worst case scenario and no red eye flights, as I'm pressed for time. Worse comes to worst, I'll just do Rincon, but I'll definitely be doing something late January, like I did last January.
I was in the same boat - been to PR enough to want to try somewhere else. Jetblue is direct out of JFK. Flight prices vary by the day - RT was around $385PP.
Almost all trips to the area involve security beat downs. If you fly through El Salv they take everyone off the plane and search all shit and frisk you. They dont do shit about the violence but no "druggas" allowed! I find it hilarious.
Yank saves the day. After your post about going out i called SW yet again and told them to call SJO directly and sure enough there is an outbound embargo. We would have been screwed on our flight home. So now we are flying in and out of Liberia which has no embargo. All told ive been on the phone with SW for 8 hours on this mess.
well back to square one. southwest is a cluster so im calling the lir airport. one rep says yes and another says no. WTF
